He’s no Nathan Jones is he.

Actually sounds like a nice guy (I know we had a nice guy in Ruben and look where that got us). Like the fact he acknowledges that the fans are important and how he embraces the city. Also understands the importance of a derby, though we won’t have any of those without cup intervention this year.

Getting a good feeling about him.

    We March On.

Nothing’s ever simple for us is it!?

I’m not blaming SR as I believe they are right to say we started formal negotiations as a Champ club and should pay relevant compensation but …

… we now face problems getting his coaching team and any Swans players he wanted to sign, not to mention a potential ongoing legal case

Really feels like we should just have coughed up the extra 750k tbh.

And honestly if it goes down a legal route I’m not sure we have a leg to stand on in terms of when we started negotiating. We were a PL club and that is it, what we were planning for is irrelevant.

We might be ok though by virtue of not triggering the clause until officially being a Championship club, I guess it depends where the line is drawn.

Regardless though it would have been worth 750k not to have our pre season destabilised.

I am reminded of the time NC signed Steve Davis from Glasgow Rangers. A lot of clubs trying to sign players as Rangers were insolvent and NC paid the full fee (then l think it was only £800,000) and said he could forsee issues with the possible illegal manner in which other clubs were trying to do business. Getting business done with minimal fuss. A lesson possibly SR should learn. Among many others perhaps.

In fairness, that’s what we did with Mara, and that was SR…

But anti SR viewpoints don't want to hear that, that doesn't benefit their argument.

You can’t win this one. Swansea’s board are arseholes. They are trying to win some points with Swansea fans because Swansea fans hate their board. This is nothing to do with SR.

If they keep on being arseholes at the expense of people’s careers then they are still being arseholes. I have no idea why anybody is blaming Saints. He literally got held back an age over £750,000 which Swansea must be desperate as **** to be fighting for. Makes them look cheap and mean spirited to me. Are we not playing in the same league this season? Therefore we are a Chanpionship side.

I suppose Swansea could consider we have a hefty chunk of cash from the parachute payments and that entitles them to ask. Not suggesting for one moment l support that position, because quoting out of context is a favourite pastime of some on here, it might act as an incentive.

I am certainly anti-SR, but l think LT has made a valid point. Does that response satisfy you?

TBH, l am not really conversant with the legals on this, it does all seem a little pointless. Once lawyers get involved, there is usually only one winner, and they are the ones wearing the barristers attire.

I have said all along that IF we started talking to RM whilst we were still a premiership club , and not mathematically relegated ,
Then imho Swansea have every right to fight and win their case .

It doesn’t make them look anything other than a club fighting for something it is entitled to .

Let’s take an example if we unofficially talked to Martin last September and we were sitting in the Champions League places. We then say we’ll make a formal approach in the summer. What then?

    No different than now.

We informally sounded him out. Got relegated officially and then once the season was over we spoke to him officially and agreed terms. We did have another manager for the Liverpool game unless I am mistaken? And his contract didn’t run out until about a week after the last game.

IMO it’s bollocks. Screw them. They shouldn’t get another bean.

I don't necessarily disagree, but as fans we would want everything to be cut and dried whatever wouldn't we, its not our money
Potential issue for board to pay 'ex-gratia' payment if its not legally required as they have to do whats right for the organisation by law?

I think this sounds like a clash of cultures, we want it to be done as it always is in England, US owners don't care how its done here
Athletic view is that clubs have informal discussions with managers with permission but that legal process doesn't start until formal negotiation with the club starts

    Situation is typically Saintsy though

Talking about something isn't legally binding, you enter the legal process when you start formal negaotiation and are committed when you sign the contract

As a Saints fan maybe you would take our side a bit, unless we were guilty of something really clearly immoral or unethical, No?

I’m not having a dig at Saints , merely pointing out a situation where it would appear Swansea is entitled to all the money .

of course the real situation once they go through the detail , it may prove they are not entitled to it .

I really don’t know why you came out with the Take our side a bit .
