The Twitter meltdown over this is glorious. Virtuous Mancs and Bin dippers primarily up in arms about His Excellency’s title
In Saudi Arabia the title "Excellency" is a government rank to ministers and high ranking official upon issuing a royal decree by the His Majesty the King. In Arabic is called معالي or Ma'ally in English, and is also used for university Presidents as seen in this royal decreehttp://www.spa.gov.sa/English/details.php?id=814045 and as seen in the information page on the President of King Abdulaziz Universityhttp://university-president.kau.edu.sa/content.aspx?Site_ID=101&lng=EN&cid=2323 a person who is awarded the Excellency rank holds the title for the rest of his life, and even addressed by his title after death. Citizens are required to address the holder of the rank by his title, Example: His Excellency Prof Mahmood Safar the Previous Minister of Hajj معالي الاستاذ الدكتور محمود سفر ويز الحج السابق —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.50.63.190 (talk) 02:53, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
The fact it sounds like he's caught the bug as a fan and not just the chairman is good news, he will go all out to make us the best.
Calling him "His excellency" is essentially like calling him Sir. Some Americans, for example, refer to some knighted folk as "Sir" even though in America it is meaningless and holds no value.
I’ve reiterated this to a number of the dim witted… they’ve no problem with calling old red nose Sir. Different when it’s someone from the Middle East.
To be fair as a brit, Sir, Lord, Lady, Dame, Viscount, none of them hold any meaning or value to me either.
Yes, but they don't offend you greatly I presume? The fact so many people are up in arms about the address of His Excellency is just bloody hilarious, and it really highlights the pig ignorance of folk.
Sir Gavin Williamson ****ing offends me. I don’t say this lightly but he’s a greater **** than Shelvey is a ****
