Guns n Roses sounding quite good even though it's not my kind of thing...Mrs Steels going to see them in Glasgow next week. Been listening on radio as I'm up in Glasgow picking her up from Placebo gig tonight (well she did pick me up from Muse last night, so fairs fair!)
Yeh I thought the mic sound for Axl was poor. Couldn’t listen any more so watched Ezra Collective instead. Brilliant. All strong musicians … but the keyboard player was amazing.
On a bit of Generation Sex just now....old men singing punk, but Billy Idol, Cookie, Steve Jones and co actually looking and sounding ok. Jockstrap for me next, Georgia from Black Country New Roads side project
Their own tribute act but still better than GnR, and for me Foo Fighters, who I have a blind spot for, except when they have surprise guest spots - like Rick Astley or Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones - and they play their guests songs. I really like Grohl as a person though. To be honest I have a massive blind spot for Glastonbury as well. Trying to recall sets that I’ve really liked from the last few years - The Cure a couple of years ago and Neil Young sometime before that, Nick Cave even longer ago and….err. Actually being there looks hellish. Give me a 1000 capacity hall anytime.
Generation Sex were great, as were the Pretnders...with added guests Jonnie Marr and Dave Grohl. What is wrong with old men playing punk...when they really can.. Earlier in day I liked Raye ( Amy Winehouse) and Sudan Arcade ( sexy fiddle player). Jacob Collier I caught the end off, and he seemed a good entertaining pop act....going to try and watch the whole of the set later. So after 3 of the 4 days....who am I saving my money up to see. Sparks and Generation Sex ....
At 5am this morning I was more like a “vomit eating angry man”, as a patient didn’t like what he was being told, so proceeded to throw a bowl of his vomit over myself, my crewmate and the back of my ambulance. I wasn’t happy
Bit more of a "me" day today, starting with the Black Country, New Road set...others I'll be watching will be Viagra Boys, Alison Goldfrapp, Alt-J (if you've not seen them before, highly recommended - seen them several times), Blondie in the Legends slot, and then it'll be a battle of wills between me n Mrs Steels - she'll be wanting Elton and I'll want Queens of the Stone Age!
Surely a shocking state of the music industry now that top billing performers like Elton John and Debbie Harry are way over 70 years of age. We were spoiled with genuinely brilliant musicians in the 1970's. The Inkspots would never have taken top slot over Bowie, The Who, The Eagles, Dylan etc...
