Just read this interesting article from the EADT and it seems that we are certainly at a crossroads with the future of our Youth development at the club. Evans will certainly need to invest a fair few bob in this extremely important area of the club because the alternative doesn't bare thinking about. Our club has always had pride in the talented youth system that we have developed since the days of Jackie Milburn as manager and I think it would be a disaster for the club if we failed to invest the money needed to upgrade our youth status. We can't rely on Jewel's Dads Army forever!

Thank you for your constructive comments GPB but I think you'll find a cross banter thread further down the page for ****er comments like that! <ok> This thread is intended for Townies only.

You obviously havent read our financial report which is even more worrying. A profit of 136k INCLUDING the sales of Wickham and Walters (and only 4 signings) and a wage bill which is basically 99% of turnover
in the previous 2 years we had lost a combined £24 million so without these sales that would be up to £34m.
The academy obviously helped bring in a basic £8m of our income this season which helps us stay in the black. Surely keeping the academy at the highest level will bring in some youth players, on sensible wages which would save us a lot of money in the long term. If we can sell a Bramble/ Wright/ Dyer/ Wickham/ Ambrose every other year then it has to be good for our long term future
The stated figures really do make me worry. Our club has seen major expenditure for very little on field to shout about

I find it worrying when we have a thread about crisp related puns we get loads of replies but when we put one up about our academy and our finances nobody does!

I think the Dad's Army is only supposed to be a short term fix giving Jewell time to find the right young players to take us forward.

    So 'DON'T PANIC MR MAINWARING'

not too concerned about the relatively small profit announced, i'm sure its all to do with clever accounting. less profit = less tax?. i am a bit concerned about the academy, we need this to bring in new blood now and again. i'm sure those in control in their ivory towers realise this.
