The bookies have now started re-offering odds(after suspending things this morning), Barmby now 4/6, no-one else is shorter than 12/1(Davies, Robinson, McClaren).

Depends what you mean by "go over".

Barmby is going to be appointed caretaker.

The reason for that is to see how he gets on and if it doesn't work out he goes back to his coaching role and we get someone else. If he wins 5 of the next 5, and the team LOOK like they are playing for him and are tactically well structured, he will be appointed full time boss.

I think it is NOW CRUCIAL Brian Horton comes back. He and Barmby know each other well and Nobby is EXACTLY the kind of wise old head to rein Nick in when his renowned enthusiasm gets the better on him.

To be honest I think this is excellent for City as I was increasingly concerned at the expectations surrounding Joyce's return and the inevitable media furor relating to the Great Escape connection. The only concern I have is the increasing number of stories I am hearing about the way the Allam's are managing the Club.

In my eyes Nick Barmby is a God and I am over the moon that one of our own will lead us forward along our rollercoaster.

Couldn't agree more. The potential of Barmby with a wise old head like Horton is exactly what we need to move forward. I'd be much more comfortable with that than I would have been with Barmby as a number 2 to Joyce's number 1.

Dougie Freedman is the one you need to look at - look at what he's done for Palace. Barmby can do that here.

I meant, before something becomes official and we have a 'manager'
I absolutely agree with you about Barmby being a God and I am happy he is getting this opportunity, but a part of me thinks something else.
That something else is what I have put on another thread a bit ago, but I shall repeat ;)

Basically, we have a team here that is so close to promotion, a team that just needs a little bit of tweaking and a guidance before we can again call ourselves a premier league team, this would mean £23million cash injection into the club (MINIMUM) now, if you were the Allams, would you be willing to risk all that money plus put your own cash into buying more players in January? The answer most people have given me so far is no. As much as we all love Barmby, he hasn't experience to get us promoted as a managerial side of things.
Don't get me wrong I would love Barmby to be Manager, he deserves it, true idol and hero. But do you really think the Allams are going to take that risk? I know they are risk takers an all.

If Dougie Freedman can do it, Nick Barmby sure can!

You've answered you own question there.

If he is caretaker for 5 games and we win 3 and draw 2, say, I think you will find the caretaker title gets forgotten almost instantly and a new contract gets offered.

Dougie Freedman has got Lenny Lawrence behind him, a very astute appointment by somebody last year. Horton would fulfill exactly the same requirement for us. Oh yeah, and John Gorman does the same thing for Carl Robinson, and Ray Mathias did for Paul Ince.

Can we also get Deano in as Morale Officer??

The thing is, Horton hardly kept Brownys feet on the floor. Browny went completely insane after 6 months in the prem, and Horton did little to change that. Is he really the right man for the job?

As a Mascot. You wouldn't stop him from training, from playing football. It'd be great for him, and the overall spirit would up ^^^

You seem to have forgotten to mention all the achievements Brown and Horton enjoyed.

I know so it can really be argued both ways, but I feel as though Hortons biggest test as the experienced half was to keep brownys head straight and his feet on the floor when he started getting carried away. We all know how that turned out, a year and a half of tactical stubbornness.

From what I've heard Nobby and Brownie constantly argued, yelled at each other, called each kunt etc etc, but respected each others point of view. I won't deflect this thread onto what happened with Brownie but I think the ultimate failure in the Premiership had little to do with their relationship. More likely it had to do with Brownies relationship with certain other people within the club......IMHO

I'm trying not to turn it into a browny debate too hence my vague example, we all know what happened. But what I'm trying to say is as the experienced head, Hortons job was to advise browny how to deal with the situations and keep his head clear above the water. This obviously didn't happen, and to contradict my argument could most likely of been down to browns ego and stubbornness to do things his own way, he might just never have listened but we'll never know.

Did someone mention Lampard Snr last night? Where did that come from, or was it just "that sort of person" remark. Can you really see him coming up here?
The next few games are going to be fascinating watching what sort of team NB puts out; can't wait. Most of us think this team picks itself (and it does) but you just wonder if NB has different ideas. Tactics are another thing and it's going to edge of the seat stuff.
Brian Horton would be OK as a mentor, but I wonder if he will even consider coming back after being sacked by AP in such an off hand way.

Humberside seem to think Steve Wigley might be the experienced coach. If he comes I hope it's without his 2 mates, Tim Flowers and Iain Dowie.
