HNM has still got a contract in front of him! We wont get the fee we paid but that would be in the independant advisory panels minds? ... plus his games for France? etc ... he could still sign with a get out clause !

NP said a few weeks back, when Vyner/agent turned down the offer, that players shouldn't expect large increases in salary after 1 decent season.
NP is aware of Vyner's limits and knows if we achieve a p/o position next season Vyner won't be part of it.
No surprise to me NP has brought in right footed defenders.

I would agree with 2 of those 3, as yet, NP hasn't done nearly enough to be in that bracket over LJ... 2 bottom half finishes in the Championship... If he delivers a top 10, or better finish this season, then he starts to enter that equation. Also, sadly, GJ was well over 10 years ago now

It's all a matter of personal opinions, you are correct about GJ, my mistake I'll extend to 15 years, Nige is head and shoulders better than LJ, career as a player and manager in my opinion, there we must differ.

As a player and manager at other clubs, agree, NP is head and shoulders above LJ, but I only care about my club and our success. LJ's league positions trump NPs (to date, but hoping that changes) comfortably at BCFC, those aren't personal opinions, they are verifiable facts! An even bigger achievement for a manger who is allegedly so inferior, wouldn't you say?

Achievement is not all about league position, other factors are involved, NP has achieved against his goals, whilst turning us around as a club. So far so good, Now he has to push on. Only time will tell. What he has already achieved, in terms of putting the club on the right footing, whilst keeping us in the Championship is not to be sniffed at though. even if he fails in his next goal the building blocks are in place for the next incumbent.

Times have moved on, I'll put this up again I think it's relevant -
Bristol City CEO opens up on Nigel Pearson's contract and internal expectations for 2023/24
Nigel Pearson is the third longest-serving manager in the Championship having first taken charge of Bristol City in February 2021
    https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-nigel-pearson-contract-8536170
    Bullet Points ~
    * Been in the game for 25 years as a coach and 17 previous to that as a player, he’s more than aware of the bizarre nature of football management and the violent swings in popularity and appreciation that can occur.
    * Having successfully rebuilt and restructured the squad amid challenging financial restrictions, admiration for Pearson within the fanbase is once again high.
*That “thing” is undoubtedly promotion and City being able to crack the glass ceiling of the top six which proved unachievable under Lee Johnson before a financial reset during Pearson's time in charge.
    * Having cut the wage bill to a more manageable figure, brought in enough characters he deemed right for the overall culture and environment of the dressing room and added quality, either through the transfer window or internally via the academy, it finally feels like his squad rather than one with remnants of his predecessors.
    * “I don’t think we’re too far off. We had a fairly young squad last year that had limited number of appearances at first team level so all those players are a year older, Nigel’s got to know a little bit more in terms of strengths and weaknesses; it was clear we needed to add some depth in terms of defensive players and we’ve done exactly that. You can score goals to win games but keeping them out is equally as important

Laughable to talk about Junior and Pearson in the same breath.

Not solely in the context as a manager at BCFC it isn't.

Football is a results industry, and league finishes are the marker, nothing else, why else do so many managers get sacked every season. LJ had to spend big to compete in a market where everyone was spending big on players and wages, and he did ok. Pearson has had to cut spending and wages in a market where everyone was cutting costs and reducing spending, so far he has an average record in terms of league finishes. They worked in different markets, that is not in question, but both of them in the same context as every other team in the league. LJ didn't spend big in a market where everyone else was cutting costs, just as NP isn't cutting costs in a market where everyone is spending big. Many on here seem to think that is the case as it suits their narrative, but it's simply not the case.

Ask all those Championship managers who got sacked this season what the marker of success is? Staggering some people don't get it....

I also think NP wasn’t at all well when he came here and only really back to full health recently. He’s looking back to full health now, even in his interviews he not quite so aggressive…. Almost but not quite <laugh>

    It’s about value for money.
Didn’t you know? You have to take into account money spent and players signed to achieve the league position.
If you apply that formula, Nige is better than Klopp and Pep - look at the money THEY spent.
I’m simple, me - I just see the League Table.

€18m, Not a chance at that price. They’d have to practically double it.
