Because it’s not the current trend. Football today is more fluid today in the same way the big clubs don’t really play with proper full backs eg Man City and to a certain extent Liverpool don’t play with a traditional way for the full backs. I’m talking about wingers such as Gillespie and Ginola who had proper strikers up top which you can sort of get with Wilson but not Isak (who is the future). Don’t get me wrong, different options are great but we’re clearly on a certain budget and we aiming for quality and whilst we have positions that we do need to upgrade on then spending on players who in my opinion would be classed as tactic B players at this stage is not worth it.
Tactic B players? It's not really just a tactic B concern when your best winger going into a CL season is Miguel Almiron, then followed by Murphy, Gordon and ASM. Our wings are not strong enough.
They are though, especially when you consider the cover there. ASM, Miggy starters - Maxi, Eddie clearly trusts him and that's enough for me, Gordon rotation, Murphy back up and Willock, Joelinton and Isak for emergencies - no issues with that. CM is the number one issue until Tonali comes in then you'd ideally take one more but if Anderson/Miley is coming through they might think one CM incoming is enough, then I'd say CB is the next pressing concern - after Botman and Schar you only have Burn and Lascelles. LB next, Target is fine, Burn and Botman can cover but a specialist is needed really. Then we start looking at improving the rest of the squad where we have depth already.
I watched him playing for Scotland recently and he was outstanding in fairness. He's not who I want but can see the appeal, he's an upgrade on Longstaff. Bemused if we blew a chunk of money on him though.
