You’ll struggle to find a player in the championship on £30k a week who’s not been relegated from the PL in the last few years.

I have no idea what our ceiling is but I’d like to think it’s gone up quite a bit from last season. We had one of the lowest wage bills in the division which is great but you’re handicapping yourself if you continually have a lower budget than those pushing promotion.

How does the regular folk on the street know what a players wage is? Surely it's just the same as any other industry.

Good signing. Not sure how Phillips is gonna force his way into the team.

See above tweet. Personal terms agreed with Kovacic two weeks ago but clubs only just agreed a fee today. Happens all the time.

We’re getting round having a low wage bill by having young, up and coming, players. Our side were very competitive last season and I’d expect us to be that bit stronger in 23/24.

This has got the added bonus that our squad is steadily growing in value.

Surprised given he's said just in the last few days he's heard nothing from the club since the season ended. Either contractual or regarding possible offers.

Class signing that. £30m seems very good value to me, when compared with other prices being bandied about.

I bet the lad walked into the academy and thought “christ, this is a step up!”.

Stoke will spend big this summer like as they are out now of the FFP period which got them into a bit of bother.

They’ll spend big, fail and end up with FFP restrictions again in season or two…I can sense it.

It's class to see we are adding some much needed height to the squad with the signings so far. From what I can find online anyway...

    Nectarios Triantis 6'2"
    Luis Semedo 6'3"
Jobe Bellingham - I don't think his height has been updated anywhere online but he appears taller than Jude who is 6'1"

If the club knows they want to sell the player, they may give them permission for them to speak to bidding club(s) if they assume a fee agreement will be reached

The difference is though is Kovacic it was in the media weeks ago that he was in talks with man city, the only thing mentioned about Stewart is someone on a msg board saying he has been offered £30000

Am i right in thinking that FFP is on a 3 year cycle so teams can gamble in year 1 and consolidate in years 2 and 3 to stay within the rules. (i guess that putting players on 30-40k a week will bite in year 3 though especially if your club does not generate that much income. We as a club should financially very strong this year as we were a regular on sky sports last year and our season ticket sales have been tremendous, put that together with advertising corporate and sponsorship deals then I think we should be much better off than Stoke however, they may be more inclined to gamble than we are, given how desperate they seem.

Stoke owners are the richest in the division iirc. Definitely one of if not. But I just don’t see them spunking £30k a week on a striker when they signed Gayle last season who’s within the top 1% of earners in the division just from the portion of wage that Stoke pay, plus they have Jacob Brown on a decent wage. They’ve just been hammered by FFP they won’t fall into the trap again you’d imagine.

For my ten pence on the Stewart situation I think the club will still have the deal he was offered ready for him but will have asked for time to assess his return from injury before formalizing the deal. My gut says he will sign the new deal and I don't think stoke will offer 30k after the injury but I am expecting Sunderland to offer him and JC very good championship deals with bonuses for promotion. Obviously agents and other factors can come in to it but to be honest Stewart must be looking at last season, the new signings, the players committing long term to the club and thinking I will have some of that. hopefully I am right but if not we move forward and smash the league next year playing the same exciting football we did last year.
