Hull City hope to have at least one new face in before they jet off on their 10-day trip to Turkiye on Sunday week with work continuing behind the scenes. Vice-chairman Tan Kesler remains hopeful the club can still strike a deal with Newcastle United for Karl Darlow amid growing competition from elsewhere, while other positions continue to be worked on. City want to add a left-back and bolster their creative options this summer, with owner Acun Ilicali keen to give Liam Rosenior the tools to able to sustain a promotion challenge. If the Darlow move does not come off then Manchester United's Tom Heaton is a target, while the club have also looked at Republic of Ireland international Will Smallbone, the Southampton midfielder who impressed on loan at Stoke City last season. The Tigers remain confident of signing an attack-minded player who came close to joining last summer, while a Championship winger is also firmly on their radar. Kesler, however, accepts that the club and supporters must be patient throughout the remaining weeks of the transfer window as they look to sign quality over quantity, and may have to wait for other clubs to do deals of their own before sanctioning the release of Rosenior's targets. "We're very busy, he told Hull Live. "Some players we're close with and some players we are not that close with. As a board, the chairman and I, we're working hard to fill the positions Liam identified before pre-season. "This is the Championship. We're all in the same boat, there's a lot of clubs recruiting the same players, free agents. We don't want to rush and sign the wrong players that wouldn't fit in and then create a problem for Liam, and he understands that. "We're all working together and managing these transfers along the way. Some players may come early, some players may come late. We want to reserve our right to keep two positions open until the last minute because that's an opportunity for all the clubs and we want to take advantage of it. "Some players won't play (at their clubs) and don't fit in and then become available. Some of the targets we have already identified and that's been going on for a couple of months. On the subject of potential interest in Smallbone, Kesler admits the midfielder is a player that is attracting interest from a host of clubs. "He's not a live target, but he's one of the players available in the market that we've thought about and talked about, but I also don't want to create any animosity by making comments."
Giving Slater a contract makes sense zero arguments with that. As an addition to the comment made about the holding midfielder next to him that just got me thinking how useful it would be to rotate in games against better opposition and tighten us up to have that option. Without one I aren’t too hopeful.
Another name I've heard is George Dobson for the #6 role. Plays for Charlton. Really aggressive player and arguably Charlton's best player. Not sure if he's good enough for the Championship in terms of his technical ability on the ball but he's a proper #6. Tackling and interception stats look good.
Apparently, we've also bid for Max Bird at Derby. Another strange one if true. Very similar to Woods and Seri in that he's a deep-lying playmaker but very lightweight and not really a tackler.
Saw that. Even if we sell Woods, I'd rather we get a proper defensive mid instead of another player like him. We should've signed one last summer instead of Woods.
As I'm not overly familiar with how it works with the memberships, if you're renewing your seat do you still have to jump on and buy it, or is it an opt-out thing and if not it just rolls over and charges you another month?
Cheers, wasn't sure if the 200 sold in the first 15 mins stat was significant as it meant we had new members coming on board or if it could just be people renewing. That's impressive then!
Unless you pay up front with cash. My seat is reserved until July 14th. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Wasn't there a rumour that Woods was very much a backup plan at the last minute due to another deal falling through? Remember seeing it on here but I could be wrong
Well even Sir Adam appointed Jan Molby and Ian Dowie so... Moncur wasnt well enamoured with Shota either when I spoke to him. Just said no one had a clue what he wanted and it was ****ing chaos.
Just managed to get my stepson a membership on line, he and the granddaughter will be coming over from Ashton under Lyne for games.
