Those guys are weird for sure. They make up a rapidly shrinking portion of the population though. Less than 50% of people in America now say they're religious or affiliated with a church. There's far more "look it's a tank... Woohoo 'merica where's my flag?" people than the religious nuts.

They're still a major political block. Those on the right can't get to power without them anymore than those on the left can't get to power without backing of the blacks. They're aging out of the system though. You will find far less millennial or gen z religious nuts. Time is not on their side. 20 more years and they'll lose most of their power. For now though, because they're older, they're also wealthier so they wield disproportionately more power than the average American. American political system is powered by ads that run for years before elections and big money... So wealthier backers means you get your message out to more people.
