Tory MPs claiming they're abstaining from voting on the privileges committee report because 'They've been told not to vote against it by Boris Johnson'. Does he have any authority over publicly elected MPs ... ... shouldn't they just vote with their own conscience or aren't they allowed one. They're not considering the views of their constituents, they're just slaves to their hero. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65930011 Boris Johnson has asked his supporters not to vote against a report that found he intentionally misled Parliament.
Just looking at the area where my family is and found this. Harriet Grant Sun 18 Jun 2023 The sun has been shining on Scarborough’s South Bay all week, but Steve Crawford isn’t opening up the surf shop he’s so proud of – “mahogany door, views over to the castle” – because the water isn’t safe to swim in. “My business has vanished overnight,” he says. “On coronation weekend, the red flags went up warning people not to go in the water because of poor water quality, and now there are signs at every access point to the beach saying ‘No swimming’.”
I know I have banged on about this a bit. But I wonder if the privatisation of water companies, is being used in teaching at school and universities economics depts, the stupidity of handing over monopolies to private companies. Huge dividends and share buy backs have been paid to overseas companies (i believe Northumbria Water is owned by the Chinese). Whereas water leaks go unfixed, new reservoirs are not built and raw sewage is pumped into rivers and onto costal beaches. Then I read £10bn will be spent on water infrastructure but charges to consumers will increase to pay for it. You couldn't make it up.
So it is the cost of maintaining the infrastructure that will "trickle down" to customers. Still, it's a free market so they can go elsewhere if they aren't happy with their "providers"
We were kayaking on there on Friday, it was brilliant mate, we are setting off on this Friday morning maté otherwise you could of popped in and collected them if you like that sort of thing, you can also hire them next to the bluebird cafe. Food in there is very good but we always eat in Herdwick’s on the top road, cracking lamb burgers. Are you in a cottage?
If people are never going to stand up for themselves it’s pointless even talking about it. We should be doing something?
There is a car park just before Torver that drops right down to the Lake ( Brown Howe ) Has its own toilet block as well, keeps the women happy
We shouldn't really have to march on Parliament to ask that raw sewage isn't pumped into our rivers and seas tbf ... ... there's no blame on us at all. If we protested about sewage, illegal immigrants, the cost of living, the party people laughing at us, etc etc etc, we'd never get any work done. Clean water etc should be a given, not have to be earned.
Maybe we customers all need to buy £10 worth of shares. Then at AGM vote for zero dividend payments ( wouldn’t be a loss to us on our £10 worth) and tell the board improve things out of current profits and price or you’re out. Could it be that simple ?
Totally agree mate, but surely if we don’t do something the bastards will still just laugh and s hit on us. Like they have done the last 13 years.
So Shaun Bailey is trying to take Boris's old job as Mayor of London. He's a close friend of Boris's current wife. He's sending out invitations to a party at the Conservative headquarters around the time Boris was attending various other parties. He and another party goer are so highly regarded by Boris that they're given a peerage and an OBE. But Boris, despite all of this, is totally oblivious to the existence of this party
