Without overpaying how do you get business done early? It's the usual cat and mouse, you want to pay X and the other side/s wants you to pay Y. Players want a break too, it's a big decision as it usually involves moving and many have young families.

It's been quite nice to have a proper break after a mad few years, the sun's been out and the Ashes/Euro u21s is starting.

Oscar scored 5 in 16, of which not all 16 were starts, under Rosie. That’s not half bad for someone who doesn’t suit it. He’s a 26 year old Colombian international, not a 31 year old who will only get worse. He could easily improve on his weaknesses in pre season, when fit with actual wide players in the side too.

C'mon, 31 for a CB is hardly over the hill, they usually develop later so he's arguably still in his prime.

Oscar could and probably will improve his hold-up play, I doubt he's been asked to do as much of it as he was this year. Technically I can't see him improving much though, he's from a country that produces technical players and played in leagues that are very technical.

I think it's all a bit irrelevant about Oscar though as LR is very clear in his principles and I can't see him having the focal point of his attack as someone who doesn't suit his style.

I think the Saudis throwing money about is very interesting too and I'm sure that once they've stopped going for superstars they'll start to look lower down and I wouldn't be surprised if we got interest. Tetteh and Seri have both been linked before and Seri getting a big offer especially wouldn't be surprising.

I'd have Sonny Bradley tomorrow. Beast of a centre half who totally bullied City at Luton the last time he played 90 mins against us. Hull lad too, which is always nice.
Sheffield United have just won promotion from the Championship by bullying the opposition, as they did the last time they went up too. Every successful team needs a bit of aggression in its ranks.

To be fair when we last went up, we had a team full of big bastards too.

Good. Makes sense. As they say, let Christie and Coyle battle it out. If both keep fit, then it's that position sorted nicely for next season. And it seems like he's a great character to keep within the club.
    Next .....

Is the new three-year deal tacked on to his year option? Is he now contracted to 2027?

Happy for Coyle. Good player to have around.

I think it'll be 3 years from now, so 2026 with the option taking it to 2027. I do wish they'd state it explicitly though.

Presumably this deal will replace the one year trigger, so three years from now.

Still think we should have just stuck with the one year.

Great for the lad, but taking my black and amber tinted glasses off for a minute. 3 years seems a bit bonkers. Should have triggered the extension and waited to see where we ended up at the end of next season.

Long term over extending is a strange decision

    3 year seems a
Agreed, 2 year deal perhaps but 3 years potentially with an option is crazy.

Seem much more honest summer plans now than initially thought

He’s helped a lot of foreign players settle, good cheap back up option who can help deliver balls in against teams sitting back. Sell on value too if we do end up challenging at the right end

    Exactly.
And who knows, he might do an Ash, Daws, ..... I see him as sort of like Ayling at Leeds, not the most technically gifted, but capable, gives everything, and as you say, likes to get forward and can deliver decent crosses (if only we had fit, proper strikers there for them).
I guess understandably the club were keen to keep him (for off and on field reasons) and he wanted more security than just the year extension. Unlikely to be a high earner in the scheme of things. To my mind, sensible.
