That's what i thought. When political leaders announce what they plan to change if elected then that is also agreed on by the party and if a leader changes then the party should (and i use the word should) continue with endeavouring to make the changes that they were elected on. When an election becomes a popularity vote based on who somone likes better than the other then things are bound to fail. At our most recent election i despised our incumnet PM Morrison yet voted for that partys member in our electorate as she has done a good job representing the local community. Sadly i think this gets overlooked by too many people nowadays
Just when we thought that Boris had fallen, not having a leg to stand on, there is another story out there that gives him something to hide behind. Sue Gray, the Senior Civil Servant who led the original Enquiery into 'Partygate', then announce thar she would quit The Civil Service to take up the role of Chief of Staff for Sir Kier kept her ongoing discussions with Sir Kier to herself. After an enquiery into this, apparently involve top Civil Service Officials, they have found against her. It seems that she broke all the impartiality Rules in not disclosing her discussions about this job, while conducting her Partygate investigations. Had she not resinged from The Civil Service, she would have been sacked. At the time, Sir Kier, a very senior Lawyer before entering politics, said that she had done nothing wrong. So now Boris has a credible, (in his eyes), claim for bias against himself. Of course I can not say for sure how accurate this report is, it's in The Telegraph,. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/ukne...31&cvid=9e27862491a24bd1bd32b86d161f6c4a&ei=8
Prior to the establishment of political parties, those who were eligible to vote would have elected who they wanted to represent their constituency in parliament and that would have been an end to it. Ministerial positions have always been decided upon in the House or by the party with the majority. As the office of Prime Minister isn't established by any constitutional document or statute, only by long-established convention, it isn't even necessary that the leader of the party with the majority become Prime Minister. The monarch simply appoints the person who is most likely to command the confidence of the House. In practice that is usually the leader of the party that holds the majority.
It is why policy is so vital for those wanting to be in power. We must really look to that as a means to judge whether to vote for them. We also need to assess how credible that policy is, i.e. how realistic is it. Immigration is a hot topic in this country and I see neither main party as being realistic or balanced on it. This is where vote winning becomes more important than managing the country, in my opinion anyway. It is also relevant to look at the behaviour of those standing for election and determine if you think they are capable or reliable enough to deliver what they say. We get 5 years to make judgements on that, whether you are a party in power or opposition, yet in this country we compress it all into a few weeks of campaigning.
The problem was that a lot of people DID vote for "Boris" and not the Conservative Party, and as you say this did lead to problems. Speaking as a person who saw straight through the bluster, bluff and buffoonery of Johnson, even I was shocked at the levels of sleaze, corruption and lies that ensued from the circus of "Boris" the clown.
Hmmm ... Boris Johnson promises to 'get Brexit done' after winning an 80 seat majority in the UK general election "I am humbled that you have put your trust in me... and I will never take your support for granted." Boris Johnson to the entire electorate. ... I know exactly what you're saying but doubt anyone actually believes it, not even yourself.
I'm just having one, shouldn't when you're walking but it's really hot today ... ... I just hope I'm not breaking any rules or I might get a knighthood
Not at all. HOWEVER, assuming that he told us what he believed to be true, we now have an impartial group of the most Senior Civil Servant's declaring that he was wrong in every respect. Law ofContract. Civil Service Regulations. Not great, from a 'Top Lawyer'. The worst though is that this pair have given Boris, and his mates, the excuse formore 'tub thumping', just when we hoped to have qietened them, for a while at least.
I have to say I don’t know in detail about the EU and who’s unelected and who you’re not liking but my first thought is that civil servants are unelected and advisors and there are very knowledgeable people. I’ve done work at policy level and have seen MP’s what are knowledgable and good knowledgable and bad and not knowledgable at all. My feeling is that if they are good at what they do we should be less obsessed about it. There needs to be democracy somewhere but electing bad MPs isn’t the answer and that’s what happened. I trust the EU at this point more than the **** show of a uk government Questionable timing this mind, not saying it’s not true. Telling me to me that she wanted to go that way. She was clearly well thought of by the Tories as they gave her the task and tbh she didn’t go far enough to me.
The President of the European Union is unelected by the public. If the public dont like the job they're doing there's no way for them to vote them out. Thankfully, we live in a democracy and we are able to vote the Conservative party out after how poorly they've been lately.
According to the rapidly departing government our civil service is full of unelected activists, there's an underground working to scupper Brexit and the committees nothing but biased kangaroo courts ... ... but we should all rejoice that we don't have any nasty foreigners involved. Things are clearly much better run now
Can’t say how I know but I do. Some of the ‘lefty activists’ referred to were people in the justice and legal system who challenged the intention of breaching international human rights conventions, on a legal and ethical basis. I ask the question- what type of people would consider this? There are some on here have defended it and I think they’re scum.
