Brexit will never be sorted in my opinion. Not to the expectations those still in favour of it hope for. Pipe dream to think we will get any sort of settlement with the EU we would think is good. Was always the case for me. During campaigning I never heard a single argument that addressed the problem that we are 1 country, trying to negotiate a deal that suits us with 20 odd that is it wouldnt suit. It was the worst possible negotiating position we could have had and will remain so. It wont get much better, despite what Starmer claims he can do. The EU have no motivation to make us satisfied and never have had. To the original question. It is done. The deal, garbage as it is, was agreed and voted for. Brexit was done the day the vote went in the favour of those wanting out. There was no going back. May triggered article 51 which set the clock. We did a deal to the deadlines. It is done, and the EU are already saying 2026 is the next time they may entertain any changes. In my opinion, we could have had Gandalf, Fergie and Ghandi in charge, we would have ended up with a deal that made us worse off. Inevitable from the outset.
Exhibit A, your honour. Exhibit B will be an 'hilarious' picture with entirely too much text in a horrible font superimposed on it.
Good post. We're now where we should have been by 2017. We lost several years due to the actions of only one set of people - the whole of parliament, who thought if they spoiled and stalled enough the vote would be overturned or written off as a bad job. What did that get them? Johnson as PM and a whopping majority. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Anybody who hates Johnson and the Tories and despises Brexit ,just refer to this post for answers and consequences
I have given up hope we will see any learning from history in this country when it comes to politics and politicians, in my lifetime anyway. We have to demand better of those wishing to lead but it doesnt seem to be a mindset people want to adopt. Only to criticise those in power, without any suggestion as to what should come next. This means we allow the same ****e time and again. Sad as it is, but I reckon it is only my kids and theirs who can demand the sort of seismic change needed to allow this country to be all it can be. Same across the world.
You’ve been conned - deal with it. Admit it. For example the 350m quid going back to the nhs was a lie. Plenty more examples. It’s that simple.....a bit like your good self it seems.
I see we're back to calling people stupid. Is anything as stupid as gleefully cheering a strategy which ended with the bloke who lives rent free in your head as PM and an eighty seat majority for him? You sure showed them, geniuses.
The events of this week appear to have broken this one The great one has been proven to be a fraud. Hard to take - sure you’ll get over it.
I wonder how the conned remainers feel after being told we would enter a recession just by the leave vote winning? Pretty silly, I would imagine.
That's really easy to say but how do we actually demand better ... ... and how would your kids? Seriously I've seen you say this before but don't understand, are you demanding better and how. If not, why not.
Charming…. Why the need for name calling ffs How come I’ve been conned when I don’t regret my actions
Recession 'on its way' despite UK economy returning to growth in April 3 days ago — A recession is “on its way” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/busines...s-way-despite-uk-economy-returning-to-growth/
We knew he was a fraud from day one. There's nothing to get over. Enabling his rise to power though - that's the kind of thing that must eat away at a person. The fact that your screaming helped him. Hard to take.
Not sure if I will be able to do it? I want to stop having Bonko clouding my political thinking, he has as they say to be in the 'rear view mirror' a 'has-been'. So no more or very few posts about this bumbling buffon that has hopefully messed around the HoC for the last time. Time to move on. The Daily Heil is his a fitting new home for him, a match made in hell. Do we need a new thread about little richie versus interesting Starmer?
It's interesting that you call Starmer 'interesting' instead of 'charisma' or something similar 'cos he hasn't got any charisma or character John Major 'the grey man' didin't have any either, mind.
Different generation of politicians. With Major, yes he was boring, but you always felt like he knew what he was doing. You didn't last long in a Thatcher cabinet if you weren't good at your job. I just don't get that feeling with Starmer. I'm sure he's excellent at grilling a witness, but he really doesn't like anything coming back at him. He's got that ' how ****ing dare you' look that he can't control when asked questions. Corbyn had it as well, but for different reasons as a halfwit ideological zealot.
I've long thought people don't change, it's just the way we regard them that changes. People's true colours will always surface given time and circumstances. I could never see the witty and charming Boris Johnson others could so I searched his '10 wittiest jokes'. The only word is pitiful. Tories turning against angry version of Boris Johnson By Chris Mason Political editor, BBC News 16 June 2023 "He used to be fun and witty. Now he is nasty and bitter." says a former cabinet minister who served under Boris Johnson. Conservative MPs are reflecting on the Privileges Committee report into Mr Johnson - and on how in the space of three and a half years he has gone from the triumph of winning a huge majority at a general election to being humiliated by his peers and no longer even in parliament. "The martyr thing won't work," adds the former senior minister. "He's the guy who was successful because he cracked jokes, made people feel better about themselves, and you'd want to go for a drink with. Now he's so angry."
