Wilson is a strange one. He came as the League 2 player of the year. Obviously there’s a big step up to the championship, and we know he got injured just after arriving, but , a similar thing happened to Tanner the season before, it took him a season to adapt, so it’s not unreasonable to assume Wilson would do the same. However towards the end of last season he couldn’t even get on the bench and now it seems he may be leaving. Very strange.

I think most on here know my views on transfer strategy based on signing lower league players..... However, I think this guy is quality and is the type of addition we need. I am concerned that we are buying players with more lower league experience than we are players with higher...

I understand the reasoning behind the strategy, but like you it does worry me a bit. We’ll only know for sure once we see them within our team, as for Taylor I don’t know enough about him.

Let Nige and Brian build the team-we can judge when the players are on the pitch.

The two guys at Derby-P/BORO are very good players that can easily fit into the championship.

Not disputing that Brentford's recruitment hasn't been top draw, but I would say they are the exception. Also, their manager and coaches have been better than ours, for my money. Same with Brighton. Many aspire to these models, few achieve it, including us. The signings we have made, and ones we are linked with, suggest to me that this coming season will be another of transition, and planning for the future, rather than one where we are focused on a promotion, play-off push.

I do trust both Brian and Nige, when you consider what Brian has achieved with the academy he obviously has an eye for talent.

I just worry about to many lower league players coming in at once. It’s ok to add one or two integrated slowly over time, allowing them to adjust to the quicker and more physical championship.

once the season starts I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Exactly my feelings. One or two can be integrated, we now have; Memheti, Tanner, Roberts, Wilson, Sykes with one year or less of experience at Championship level, plus all of our youngsters. As promising as they are, that is a lot to gel into a team/squad to compete for promotion this season, imo, hence, I see another season of consolidation/transition, call it what you will.

Top 10 next season is a big ask as our squad stands right now.

I know the NP fangirls on here won't see it, but I am not as confident as they are, that this strategy is right for us at this point in time.

I’m not as pessimistic as you, I think we’ll be fine, I’ve just got concerns we don’t overdo the lack of experience, ideally I’d like some more experience brought in as well.

I also think keeping as many of last season’s squad together is as important as bringing experienced signings in. It would be great if we could keep Scott for another season, all the rumours about him seem to be just that rumours.

I never saw Scott as an early mover in this window. Most PL clubs want their marquee, or highest needs signings in first, then look at the rest of their squad needs. I think that if he does go, it will be a late Jul, early Aug transfer. Scott won't walk into many, if any teams in the PL this coming season, he will be integrated slowly, hence, not a high priority signing in June.

David McGoldrick going to Notts County. We was just mentioned as an example where Roberts came to us.

We have travelled the same summer route for years and the results show where it has led us, basically nowhere. Using Brentford and Brighton as leading examples of how it can be done is somewhat wasted in the fact that we always believe our way is the best way despite showing little or no progress on the promised path to success. The new signings don't exactly set my robin-red heart to pump any faster and despite the potential of one of our top players leaving the roost I can only see us saying the same things next January as we did the last. Despite my desire to see us play at least one campaign in the top flight I know the usual disappointment and kind words will yet again have to satisfy my thirst for football anywhere near BS3 or I can watch Luton Town at the worst stadium (joke!) there has been for many years. Perhaps Wrexham or Notts County will grace the Premiership before us and despite my annual moan about our lack of either sense or ambition I will still try my best to cheer for our perennial non-achievers even though I know deep in my heart that there are supporters of teams like ours that actually have fun in the process. Remember fun Basil? :emoticon-0136-giggl
