Yes he's legit, secured an interview with GA recently so must have some links. Twitter is melting down at the moment.
I really don't believe ferdinand is sacked. I really really really don't believe Warburton is our new DoF.
Would it be fair to say that Warbs wouldn't have to achieve much to better Les. Les was and always will be a QPR great for his footballing skills but l've never thought much of his middle management. We may well need a good flush out................... we may achieve something we haven't been able to achieve for some time. We really do need balance and stability.
When Les is on TV he’s introduced as a spurs and Newcastle great - would be nice if he pointed out he’s also a QPR great, but no.
I can’t say good riddance Les as he brought this back from it’s crazy years to a stable club, it’s just unfortunate that the last 2/3 years just haven’t worked out & club has been in turmoil & need of change was inevitable, good luck Les in what you do & your still a legend here
Hopefully they'll be no new director of football. Pointless role. We need someone to be held accountable for good or bad. There were too many people at QPR in senior roles, Ferdinand, Hoos, Bhatia, Fernandes and Gnanalingam. We need to know where the 'Buck' stops and not let them hide behind each others backs.
Says in the statement...following discussion with Ainsworth, Les has resigned. That is why there is no movement on transfers. Ainsworth has brought him down...or more fairly, a spat with Ainsworth over recruitment is the straw that broke the camels back.
This. Aside from his heroics as a player, Sir Les should have legendary status as the man who rid us of Redknapp.
Without knowing any details on what they disagreed about, hard to take sides. Only time will tell, when Ainsworth puts out his team for next year, and we see how they perform. If we are going to have a DoF, I'd actually be quite happy with Mark Warburton. He has experience in business, and football management...and I think he'd be ideal for the role. Agree with others, that it seems a pointless role, and just allows the owners to have a scapegoat when things go wrong on the business side of the club...but if we are going to have one, I'd rather him than someone with no experience of either football or business.
Disagree personally. Any club with limited resources that wants to become successful needs a well developed longer term strategy that stays in place beyond the tenure of a manager, that dictates how the whole club is run - from recruitment and style of play through to how the reserves/youth set up is run and the infrastructure decisions like the pitches, or even the interplay with the medical teams. That can't fall to the manager as their decision making is weighted towards the short term (fair enough given how they're treated) and can't be the owners as it should be a full time job. Can't be a CEO as it should be someone that understands football first rather than numbers first. Try telling Brighton / Brentford et al that we don't need a DoF and they'll laugh you out the room. It's why those clubs - and many more like them - can see a manager or key player go and continue progressing without the house of cards falling down. As for SLF's record - I'm of the opinion that we can't ever really know how well he has or hasn't done. Clearly a lot of our managers have signed 'their players' like Wallace/Kelly under Warbs and JCS/Balogan under The Snake, rather than well scouted and data-driven signings. That shouldn't be happening if we are recruiting properly. However, how much did SLF get undermined by the owners with managers going over his head? Or how much was him being weak and giving the managers too much sway over recruitment? We just can't know without inside information. My guess, and it is just a guess, is that SLF did a decent job given the challenging owners that we have (budgets and league finishes progressed reasonably until last year) but wasn't quite strong enough as a personality to hold managers back at times. A new DoF is now a critical appointment in my opinion, and naturally I have absolutely zero confidence the club will get it right.
Nicely put. I can’t think of a club which has won anything of importance in the last ten years without a DoF. Just because Ferdinand wasn’t a very good DoF doesn’t mean you can assume that the role in general is pointless. More likely in QPRs case is that in addition to Les being a bit naff, the governance is all ****ed up, which is where I agree with Ninesy.
