Not sure about that. They just stopped playing him and he always looked like the only player we had that could change a game our way. We certainly didn’t rip up the opposition without him.
Nah, teams had figured him out and put two men on him as he was our danger man. Unfortunately his naivety surfaced and he continuously ran himself in to cul de sacs and then stropped around the pitch blaming every official within earshot. He was rightly dropped.
Ricky Fowler only needs to mention an interest in Leeds and his form rejuvenates. Leading the US open. We’re the gift that keeps on giving.
But you can't push Willy 'round Willy won't go, try tellin' everybody but, oh no Little Willy, Willy won't go home
What you're saying is correct but the injury suffered on international duty proved to be the turning point. It's entirely possible he was rushed back too soon and playing at less than optimum fitness caused him to lose confidence and form. I'd also say that Jesse's system required less defensively which allowed him to showcase his attacking talent better than under Gracia and Big Sam.
I’d say it was not so much the defensive requirement but the Jesse chaos concept of swarming the ball meant that when we won the ball back we had players attacking quickly and directly - you can’t double team someone in transition. Jimmy, willy and rod were all more of a threat under marsch. Yeh I know he was clueless, we were sh*t blah blah… but we did create chances.
Just another thought. In Gnonto, Summerville & Rutter we have three young players who are an absolute joy to watch. Hopefully they are all still in Leeds shirts next season otherwise relegation will really suck.
When we were defending Gnonto always stayed fairly high up the field under Marsche so it was clearly a different role compared to the other coaches. That's what I was seeing anyway
