Her statement seems to indicate she's hanging on until she gets an explanation as to why her peerage was refused. Another interesting sideshow, I can't remember it happening before and we've had some very dodgy individuals waved through into the Lords.

Seeing as the privileges committee that ruled on his behaviour during lockdown was majority Conservative, its pretty certain that his colleagues have not been impressed with his behaviour.

He could have kept his trap shut about the report, taken his 10 day suspension, fairly easily ridden out the by-election that would have triggered, and returned as an MP. Then it would all have blown over. Instead he's taken the nuclear option. This means he goes out in a blaze of publicity and will give him something to write about. He doesn't want to be a backbench MP, and he's already said he can make more money writing, but he does want to be in the limelight. This is probably the best possible outcome for him.

He's not daft but he is selfish, unpleasant, and not really an appropriate person to be Prime Minister. We should be drawing a line under him but he's ensuring he can drag this out, one way or another, for as long as possible.

That's not to criticise the commitee, their conclusions are absolutely right and they couldn't conclude anything else. But Johnson will make the most of this for himself. The book will be out soon.

Good stuff... Is Rishi Sunak "so out of touch that he thought it was right that taxpayers' hard-earned money fund legal advice for Johnson's lies?"
Shadow leader of the House Thangam Debbonaire says the PM should demand Boris Johnson "pays back every penny"

Very clever by Boris Johnson. He knew his political career was over so decided to go out all guns blazing.

He’s going to be a very wealthy man on the back of this latest performance.

Nobody else is in the same class as good old Bonko when it comes to lying, he has no peers (no pun intended). Even good old Trump is left in his wake <laugh>

FFS, what an example to set to the country.

He was wealthy before this and would've been after, whatever happened ...

... but now people are laughing at him, not with him.

Some will still admire him despite him being a liar and a cheat which says as much about them as it does about him.

20230615_130741.jpg He will probably turn it to his advantage in a "reality" tv series. Just the tonic for his admirers, poor lads must be heartbroken :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Interesting find deep in the documents.

No COVID rules applied in Downing Street, but staff told to behave in front of the cameras.

Similar to my experience in work. Rules out the window as soon as nobody's looking.

    The question is why.

    Been thinking.
What is a LIE, in Political Terms.

For example, come General Election Time, The Parties issue a Manifesto.
The, often flamboyant, promises made in these documents are only binding on the Winning Party.
But even then, they tend to be ignored or forgatten about, once in Power.

So have The Victors LIED to The Public.
Or is a certain amount of Termiological Inexactitude acceptable in a Political Promise.

    Another, closer to home.
During the last Brexit Referendum run up,one of our local MP's was quoted in The Press as saying that 'If we, The UK. was to vote for Brexit, Nissan would close their opperations in Sunderland.
The intent was, I pressume, to scare those in favour of Brexit, into a change of mind.
Events have shown that she was wrong.
She could prefaced her comments with something like, 'in my opinion'. but she went for the definate statement. Not an opinion, a FACT.
Does this make her a liar.

I doubt that she will be alone, in politics or even in life in general, with taking such liberties with The Truth.
Do we actually expect our Politicians to be Paragons of Virtue?

But why is it that we allow many to get away with Lies and yet hang other out to dry over them.?

I should add that I'm happy to see boris in The Mire.
He did what he was elected for, (or if you prefer, what I wanted done), he got Brexit done.
Honest, upright Mrs May was never going to succeed with that.

    That's totally irrelevant tbh.

I don't think anyone believes what politicians say in election campaigns, etc.

But what's said in the House of Commons is supposed to be sacrosanct.

    They're two entirely different things.

You don’t try. You spend all day long saying ‘but Labour’. You just don’t like the idea your friends might lose to someone liberal

Penny Mordaunt is spot on. Democracy matters. Those saying ‘it‘s done move on’ are the ones still after power trying to change the narrative interestingly, not seeing the irony of their comments.

One of the most idiotic things people spout.

On that basis we wouldn't need courts or prisons.

I’d suggest the people who elected him, defended him and/or became his generals parroting his bullshit also have a lot to answer for and will hopefully be taught a lesson.
