I'd agree that not getting this transfer window correct could hurt us for years to come. Without oil money, we rely on profile and status to get top talent. Without getting this transfer window right, we can count on not improving and another year in the European wilderness outside Champions League. Macca has already said that one reason he chose us is because "we're the biggest team in England"... Sure, those kind of comments can be taken with a little dose of salt because theyre buttering up the fans and their new employers... But it shows that status is something important to him. (He also supposedly turned down offers of more money to come to us). A few years outside European top tier and the Maccas of future years might go elsewhere and make future transfer windows a little more bleak. I don't think one gap year outside the Champions League will hurt our recovered profile as one of the giants of European football, but eventually that title will seem as historic as it might have for some in 2004.
Thats my point you may find clubs and or targets want to wait to see if better offers come in later in the window which is why i think it isn't as simple as just identifying the targets and then signing them in the next fortnight .
and if we've targeted players we cannot get then more fool us. we have to have a plan to deliver the players we need when klopp needs them. we've got macallister for half nothing apparently so if we have a plan for thuram at whatever fee then start the negotiations. if the player or club wants to play them game then let them know in no uncertain terms to make their mind up. thuram and his agent should be falling over themselves to get here.
the point being this process should be already months in the making. if its not and we are now think oh new temporary lad in let's wait til August then the results in football terms will be blindingly obvious. lfc had better have a clear plan they are working to and they had better get on with it and deliver klopp players and a preseason
didn't say we couldn't get them but expecting to have bought all our targets before 1sr of July sounds very unlikely to me .
Klopp has said he wants new players in before preseason. I think if we're after a player and it's clear that he wants us as first choice then it should be easy to do the deal. Any player we are interested in and have had a clear indication that they want to sign who then starts messing about waiting to see what other offers he may get, we will walk away from.
Of course Klopp wants players in before pre season however does that mean he would prefer 2nd or 3rd choice targets ? . Plus lots of players will be away with their national squads until 20th June and then off on their hols in fact I wouldn't be that surprised if some of existing squad miss the first few days of pre season .
well I was actually being generous. Milner gone Ox gone Keita gone Firmino gone Konate seems to want 4 in. I have heard 5 in My strong view is we should have a CB and 2 CMS in on day 1 of preseason. Klopp might have 2 CMS and an RB on his list. He could have 3 CMS I don't know. I think we will look to get 4 or 5 players but really for the FIRST TEAM day 1 we need 3 player sin ready to go and having 6 good weeks work un der thier belts. We cannot afford to let teams like Newcastle, utd, cheslea and arsenal out in a lead aehad of us this season. We have to be the ones bing chased for 4th. (and thats the sum total of my expectations btw) We have made a good start with the player klopp wanted in already. It'd be an absolute crying shame to see us buying then next one a week before the seaosn is due to start and seeing them being "integrated" Last season (courtesy of my tracker thread) Fabio Carvalho. Deal announced on 23rd May. official confirmation on 1st July (no 28 shirt) 7.7 Mil Darwin Nunez. Deal Announced 14th June. (No 27 shirt) 64mil, rising to 85 with add ons Calvin Ramsay Deal Announced 19th June. (No 22 shirt) 4mil, rising to 6.5 with add ons All arrived before the preseason started. It made absolute no bloody difference as the club got it fundamentally wrong in position and priority but never mind.
internationals due back 11th July. thre is a date set for them. Its bad enough they ruined the season with world cup but they have the absolute cheek to run tournaments out to middle of june. Player welfare. lol irrespective players need to be in by 11th july or the club is really letting the manager and fans down. end of.
Slightly off topic but does anyone seriously think we'll sign Chiesa? Redmentv are saying we're keen on him, but I'm a bit confused as to why we'd seriously pursue him - maybe I'm missing something?
I don't get this one. the price is ridiculously low in rumours I've seen but it smells like an agent 100% trying to stoke something. he was a great player before injury. I've not really seen him lately. not been looking out of my way. most of all though we have 5 forwards and our bed is made there. we desperately need midfielders
Negotiations and medicals can be done anywhere. I can't remember who but we've had a couple of medicals done in the country the players happen to be in before the deals were finalised.
Mo and AFCON has been mentioned as one possible reason,we could be missing him for a month. Decent player, two footed. I wouldn't rule this one out entirely.
I'd have loved Chiesa last summer but not now. Quality player but it's not a priority area (unless we sell Salah) We're not signing a player because of one month though (might not even be a full month). Diaz, Jota, Nunez and Gakpo with Elliott and Jones able to push forward too is adequate cover.
Its only put forward as one possible reason. I'm not sure any of those players listed really fit that right hand side. Harvey lacks pace and its not the position for Jones. Gakpo maybe, but JK might want him elsewhere. We'll see.
Realise that mate. If we sell Salah I'll take Chiesa. I think Diaz could play on the right too though
