Me and Mrs RP spend time at Weymouth regularly. We stay in a B&B overlooking the lovely harbour area. During the grandchildren's holidays I take both of them down on the train from Castle Cary. They love it ......almost as much as Grandad.
used to go to Weymouth on the train regularly with my grendparents.. home made fishing rod off the pier with bent saftety pin hook and garden worms caught loads of wrasse, and couple bigger ones were taken home and eaten! on one occassion caught a bass.. although the fishermen there had a drop net it was to heavy for the bent pin hook............................... cone of cockles on way home with grans hat pin ...back then hats and frocks trousers and shirts were the norm.... always stopped on harbour side of the clock about halfway along.. date 1950 somethings! might have a pic!
When I was a kid there used to be a ferry from one side of the harbour to the other at Weymouth It consisted of a rowing boat and the charge was 1d each way per person !!
I was only about 8 and was too young at the time to have anything but a bottle of pop. Later I discovered alcohol and the rest is history !
The Nothe. It's still there - lovely views from the garden. Our rental cottage was on the narrow footpath leading from the road that the pub is on, leading down to the corner of Brewer's Quay.
That ferry is almost below where we stay and was still there last year, I'll check when we're down there in 2 weeks.
It's been revealed that the Police costs of standing idly by and watching Just Stop Oil get in the way of people's daily lives for the last few weeks is £4.2m Obscene
They’d soon leap into action if a member of the public tried to force their way through - God forbid.
