Good Morning. It's Wednesday 14th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Potter backed for ER hot seat A flood of betting on Graham Potter overnight, has seen bookies slash their odds to just 3/1 regarding the ER hot-seat vacancy. Potter, 48, has been out of work since parting ways with Chelsea ten weeks ago, after a poor run of form. He is best known for turning around the fortunes of Brighton, a feat achieved on a shoestring budget. Potter started his Managerial career in Leeds, albeit at Leeds Metropolitan University, known then as Leeds Carnegie FC. He was there for almost three years, before being poached by Östersund, a fourth-tier Swedish outfit (at the time). It won't come as any surprise if Potter is Leeds' top choice, especially now Rodgers has returned North of the border. The biggest question remains - would he go to Leeds? Daniel Farke remains the top choice with the bookies at 11/10. please log in to view this image Leeds keeping their options open regarding DOF When Stuart Webber quit Carrow Road yesterday, many believed he was on his way to Elland Road, but nothing is ever that simple at LS11. The transfer window is now open for business, but the club cannot move forward until the FA finish carrying out due diligence checks on 49ers Enterprises. One suspects this may take a while, due to the fact are talking about Leeds Utd, and a fine-tooth comb may well come into the equation. Whilst Webber (a lifelong Leeds fan) would probably jump at the chance to join the Whites, it has been suggested that the club are keeping their options open, and may even appoint a short-term candidate to get them through what is expected to be a turbulent couple of months. A good Director of Football could potentially save Leeds hundreds of millions (in the long term) as clubs like Brighton and Brentford have proved. The 49ers will be keen to not make the same mistakes as their predecessors and find the right men for the job. According to Phil Hay:- "You can see why the dots between Webber and Leeds appear to join neatly. Webber is a Leeds supporter, one who shows up in away ends from time to time. Leeds need a replacement for Victor Orta, who left six weeks ago. All in all, it looks like a pretty natural match-up." "But so far, Leeds have been open-minded about how they will fill the vacancy. It might be they go for a like-for-like swap by finding another sporting director with overarching responsibility for the football side of the club, and transfers in particular. But they have also looked at employing both a specific head of recruitment and a head of football operations, spreading authority and widening the tier of management around their next head coach. "It is also possible Leeds will lean towards a shorter-term appointment. Someone who can handle a transfer window with numerous ins and outs, and then give Leeds’ owner-to-be — 49ers Enterprises — time to implement a more concerted long-term strategy." "While 49ers Enterprises has major plans for Leeds, the most critical priority is to make sure the club can compete for Championship promotion next season. Leeds would be prepared to wait for the person who suits them best if they can find an immediate solution in the meantime. Prior to his resignation, Webber had been discussed by Leeds as a viable successor for Orta." "But for the past two weeks, more attention has been paid to securing a new head coach; a decision Leeds would like to reach in the coming days. As it happens, Farke is in the running. But while Webber to Leeds is not out of the question, it remains to be seen if the time is now." please log in to view this image
Morning all. Not overly impressive so far. 49ers have known for ages when they were likely to take over. Was a 50/50 chance which division we would be in so two different plans required for going forward. Knew for months wed need a new dof and manager, and knew there would be the owners tests by the FA. None of that a surprise. So here we are now, no dof, rumour of a stop gap one, Kinnear apparently keeping the ship afloat despite his expertise apparently being in marketing and no manager, except a revolving door of bookies favourites daily. Sincerely hope by July 1st, all this nonsense will have been sorted or many clubs will have a jump on us before season even gets going. So fingers out and get this ship moving again
Morning all Between Farke and Webber two relegations from the PL and a record setting 15 straight defeats, no thank you to that pairing. I want us to build for the future, not a quick promotion then scrap around the foot of the PL trying to survive again.
Thought it was our friends at the EFL who were the hold up? No change there. I'd really missed them since we left the championship. 49ers Enterprises handed fresh EFL hurdles to clear in Leeds United takeover bid The EFL have made a number of changes to its ownership and directors' test ahead of the new season
We really are crap at making the right decision quickly, As you all know my first choice and many Leeds fans would undoubtedly be Potter, in this bookies merry go round, haven't heard one Leeds fan say no to him, only who they would prefer. As Eire said above if we leave it to long other teams will have a jump on us, and a tight league like the championship we need not be handing out any advantages at all. So come on 49r's get that man Potter in and let him build a promotion squad, before someone else does.
Totally agree. If it's doable then make it happen and then let him get on with the job of building a decent side.
Potter was given a 5 year deal at Chelsea that's if I remember correctly. Which means we'd need to match the 4 years remaining on that and then his previous employers would normally have to make up any salary shortfall. In theory then we just need to offer him a top end Championship or lower PL salary and wouldn't have to match what he was on at Chelsea.
If the 49ers wanted to make a statement they should get Potter at all costs. Failing that they need to make Rodgers an offer he can’t refuse. None of this bollox he wont drop to the Championship, you just say this is the plan, we win promotion this season. Tell us which players you want and we’ll get them….. Failing that go sell the project to Gallardo or Benitez none of this Corberan, FARKE, Parker bollox
Which will be good news financially for Leicester. Meanwhile we're still paying Jesse full whack for another 2 years.
Just on the EFL holding things up. We're being taken over by the investment arm of one of the most famous and iconic sports brands in the world but yet the EFL are somehow doing us a favour and protecting our financial future by making sure they meet their new criteria of any 'significant person' not having a shady past. Thanks EFL we really appreciate you having our backs on this one
If the 49ers want to make an impact with the fans then they need to bring in a game changer head coach, someone with clout and a reputation. If however they are only interested in making money and saving money they won’t be going for Corberan or Le Brus because they would have to pay millions in compensation. So guess what they will take Webb and FARKE as both out of work. Guess what Mr Murathe out work top people includes Benitez, Gallardo and Potter
Look at this way Doc, you have to give them a couple of seasons to learn the ropes, Just like Radz. Took him two seasons blundering along before he made a roaring success of it all
