Reading/seeing reports about Jack Grealish and his latest 3-day bender. Similar to the 5-day one after their title win last season. Obviously the lad is entitled to have fun and celebrate but as someone who has sadly seen this trait in friends, to me he does have behaviour patterns that match addictive and impulsive alcoholism. There is a difference between having a mad one and simply not being able to stop once you've started. I'd imagine what is keeping him in check right now is the watertight support structure around him at an elite club where expectations are extremely high and dozens of people are able to check in on him on a daily basis. At 28 years of age he isn't a kid anymore. I can see a few similarities to Gazza who didn't have the same support structure as they do in the modern game so was already on a slippery slope before he stopped playing, but went totally off the rails when football left his life. I worry Jack could face a similar problem. Like Gazza, he isn't the shiniest fruit in the basket and probably lacks the IQ and life skills to pivot to another career after the football is over. Keep an eye on him. Bubbly personality with barely two brain cells to rub together who can easily get drawn into the wrong scene once he no longer has the right people around him.

What does stand out is that so much of the response on Twitter is along the lines of "Aww, bless him" Obviously it's far, far too early to make comparisons between him and early 90s alcoholics-cum-footballers like Gazza or that gormless berk who keeps popping up on talkBALLS (that may need to be narrowed down...), nor is there any evidence of him posing a risk to other people when he's sozzled like Joelinton or Dale Stephens have in the past year or so when they got nabbed for drink driving, but it is odd how his public persona is already becoming that guy who gets ****faced as part of title celebrations
Agreed. The fawning on social media making him a cult hero for basically being blackout drunk for 36 hours straight is concerning and fails to be mindful of the wider picture not just of the fact that he is meant to be a role model to younger fans (IIRC the reaction to Jack Wheelchair's I'll advised foul mouthed drunken song about Spurs when they won the FA Cup was far harsher and this point was picked up on, forcing an apology. The difference is unlike Wheelchair who is scum, Grealish is very lovable and when drunk is more likely to hug you than sing rude songs.) But there is also a failure to spot several red flags, one of which is the fact that among his entire team he appears to be an outlier. The clip of them disembarking the plane home illustrates this. The whole squad seems fine but he stumbles his way down the stairs and walks like a zombie once on the tarmac. It's one thing if the surrounding environment enables and encourages a bender but one massive flag of alcoholism is precisely an inability to read the room and get 'tunnel vision' very quickly in which all you can think about is the next drink. I worry for him and I hope the worries are unfounded. Having seen what people like Gazza go through, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Apart from Jack Wilshere.

Most windows are like this I remember 5-6 years ago somebody posted an infograpic on here of all they players they were "signing" that summer, and it was something like 50 players in the starting lineup
Bordeaux have missed out on promotion to Ligue 1 after one of their fans pushed a rival player. They needed to win and for other results to go their way on the final day. They went behind to Rodez and the match was abandoned after the following incident: The player claimed to have a concussion and was treated on the pitch for 20 minutes. He was then taken to hospital. Something tells me he was ok after that... Rodez avoided relegation with the 3 points that they were awarded. The fan was out of order, obviously. He should be banned and prosecuted. It doesn't sit well with me that Rodez clearly milked it and faked an injury to steal points. How is this substantially worse than what West Ham did against Fiorentina, for example? I'd suggest that the opposite is true, if anything.
