Foot Mercato claim that Fiorentina won't even begin to negotiate for him this summer until somebody makes an opening bid of £26m

That's £26m for a player with one year on his contract (albeit with an option for another year), for those paying attention...

Mbappe has announced that he won't sign a new contract at PSG and the club is subsequently open to selling him.

Good news for us, although there is still a concern that Real will push for Kane this window and sign Mbappe for free next year. Ultimately if that's where he wants to go, the fact that PSG are open to bids this window doesn't matter.

Now we're being linked with Roma's Roger Ibanez

On the one hand he does have the Ledders-like passing and reading of the game. On the other hand, if anyone was hoping for a calmer influence next to Romero, Ibanez is not that player, given he racked up nine yellows and one red in Serie A last season and a further five bookings in the Europa League...

I reckon if we offer them Dier, Sessegnon and Lo Celso we might be able to strike a deal for Mbappe ourselves.

Gonna keep a close eye on this one.

We will know on the last day of the transfer window what our intentions are as a club

Levy is too slow with his dealings for me to waste my summer thinking about it

    seen it all before

For once, I fancy skipping the haggling, dragging, penny pinching, save a penny lose a pound process I have become accustomed to in order to bollock it all up anyway

Does he think that he's a goalkeeper or possibly Bafetimbi Gomis?

Could be worse, Brentford's MD says David Raya could play as a No10

No wonder their valuation is a little outside the realms of reality...

Their valuation is not far off accurate.
Let us know when you buy a keeper of equal ability and experience a lot cheaper.

You think you can use prices from 11 years ago to value a player today <laugh>

So you're saying that your lot overpaid for David de Gea twelve years ago?

Because you did pay double what we paid for Lloris...

£40m for a world class goal keeper is cheap - relatively speaking.

Whether Raya is a world class goal keeper is a different question!

No, we paid an acceptable amount for de Gea and he has performed to a very high standard for a lot of years.
With Lloris i would say you got slightly better than you paid for most of the time but too many times got less than you paid for.

A Japanese source I won't try to type out as there seems to be at least three options (Spon Ichi, Sponichi, Spon Ichiannex...) claim we're looking at Stuttgart LCB Hiroki Ito

Given I mentioned him in the Vulture Watch a few posts ago, obviously he's an interesting proposition as he's capable of playing CB, LB or even LWB in a pinch and is very good at passing the ball out from the back, so as a potential partner for Romero he's less terrifying on paper than Roger Ibanez would be...

De Gea has made plenty of clangers over the years ... a lot of united fans have been keen to get a replacement for the past 3 seasons on and off.

Paying double the going rate for a keeper at the time is not "a reasonable price"

When it comes to Hugo, much like a lot of our CBs the biggest deficiencies in his game only became an issue when our tactics were changed so it ran the risk of exposing those weaknesses by design, for example while his distribution was never elite by any stretch of the imagination it was made worse by having tactics which put a lot of pressure on our midfield. The quickest way to explain it is that his long kicking was always to the centre, as when he kicked it long it usually overshot and went out for a throw-in and that was the case 5-6 years ago, which certainly stood out compared to Gazzaniga or Forster whose kicking to wide players is far more accurate - so the last 2-3 seasons have seen him play it long to a midfield that is easily (and often) overrun, or playing it shorter to the CBs but that had problems given Eric Dier's passing was never dynamic enough to get attacking moves rolling with a single pass

TBH the clangers were evident in de Gea's game ten years ago, but Man Utd usually had enough about their team to style it out

It's only when Solskjaer got the reins that they stopped being the exception and started teetering on being the norm

I think he'd be about the third most expensive keeper of all time at that price.
Kepa and Alisson, then possibly Buffon in 2001, somewhat bizarrely.
