Bollocks throwing away 2 goal leads in consecutive games and then drawing with relegatipn certs made the City game vital as going into that sequence Arsenal had an 8 pt lead though City had a game in hand . Therefore if Arsenal had won 8 of last 9 i.e. lose to City title was theirs .
Mito how can you even try and argue the fact arsenal would have won the league if didn’t bottle it. The definition of bottling is it losing a lead. They had a lead and they lost it. They throw away 2 points against West Ham and us, and 3 against Southampton.
How would 84pts do in previous league seasons? How many times would that have won the title? Just curious It's only recent seasons where a 90+ target is required
Want to make it fair? Go the yank way. No such thing as academies links to clubs. You have individual ‘college/uni’ squads. And end of each season there is a draft going from team that went up in the play offs to team that finished 1st in the prem to get to pick the best kids around.
as I said that's just icing on city's cake that allowed them focus on 2 finals. city won the first arsenal game and fired into an even higher gear. arsenal responded with wins but couldn't sustain it. that's hardly bottling. yes I highlighted the draws myself. yes I highlighted the losses myself. 10 points swing for arsenal add 5 points that city didn't trun up for ar end of seasons as they didn't need to and they would have won it by 10 points. the league was won by city by beating arsenal twice. this is exactly the same argument used against us when city drew at anfield and won at their stolen ground. oh we bottled it. city beat them up. they beat them at the Emirates then racked up the pressures.
no it wasn't as i've already pointed out they could lose both and win title they just needed to keep winning as we did even when we came 2nd .
Yep, bloody phone changed it I'd imagine 84pts would have won a few titles previously. Think most of the titles Man Utd won in the nineties was around that mark
The fact is, you need to be perfect or near perfect now to win the league. Only two teams have been that in the past 6 or 7 years. Arsenal clearly bottled it. We didn't. The years we finished second weren't down to bottling, they were down to a combination of missed chances that turned a draw into a win and while nobody wants to hear it, really poor VAR decisions. One that springs to mind immediately was the Mané goal v Arsenal that was incorrectly ruled offside that would have given us a win instead of a draw and a league title. I'm aware that titles don't turn on one poor refereeing decision but the point being, we didn't bottle it. I've said lots of times that as a fanbase we are very entitled. It isn't plucked out of the air, it's based on historic and current success. My experience (other than one or two in here eg the thread for the disillusioned, season over) is there's a very strong never say die attitude. You fight till the end. Sometimes this season the players needed to have that in their heads and match the fan's expectations but we are where we are. I'm glad that Liverpool fans are calling out city's cheating. It's a pity that others are remaining silent. I could say I'm surprised that fans of other teams still want city to keep winning over us but I'm not really. The game is changing fast and not in a good way. Still, I'm excited for the new season, city, like always, won't be on my mind until we play them.
Since Pep joined Man City... ... That's the net spend but obviously doesn't include Man City's hidden stuff
