Well now it's going to need a big hundred from Vince and contributions of 20-30 from both Organ and Barker to keep him company. Clutching at straws time again I'm afraid. We are so reliant on Vince... It's back to the bad old days of being so far behind on 1st innings that, despite a spirited much-improved effort in the 2nd dig, it's just not enough to avoid defeat.
I don't think Organ will last long against the new ball and Bailey & Williams, but please prove me wrong and make me eat humble pie Felix!
The simple fact is that we can't afford to carry either Weatherley or Organ in our batting order to win the Championship. They're both decent squad players but Organ looks more like a back-up spinner who could bat number 8 whilst Weatherley shows glimpses of his talent in the red ball but has proved he will never nail down that spot. I know Prest is injured at the moment, but surely it's time to go back to Donald and/or Albert, they can't do any worse. Middleton was thrown in at the deep end and he's done well so far so why shouldn't Albert? As several of us have stated before, a Middleton/Holland opening partnership would do for the time being, opening up that number 7 spot in the batting order.
Hanging on by the skin of our teeth in this game. We surely need at least another 35 runs to even give ourselves a tiny chance. But realistically it needs to be more like 90+.
The Ageas Bowl Awarded Two Ashes Tests | The Ageas Bowl Also got a Test match v India in 2029, plus another Test match in 2030. This is fantastic news. Australia and India are the highest profile Test matches you can be awarded.
I really don't think we got the rub of the green in this match - Gubbins' lbw in the first innings, Dawson's dismissal in the 2nd innings are 2 examples. But we didn't play well enough in the first two days at the end of the day. Poor batting and dropped catches cost us.
Barring a miracle stand by Craig Overton and Josh Davey, Somerset are heading for another defeat. 234-7 atm, needing another 232 to win at Chelmsford.
