Indeed ... us and Leeds may well have dodged a bullet there ...

In marked contrast, Claudio Ranieri has just got Cagliari promoted to Series A through the Italian play-offs having only taken the job on in January ...

    Proper manager dat! <cheers>

Well done ... still more Liverpool, also ran, level, than Citeh's Treble winning heights ... but deserving of your very own asterisk, nonetheless...

This peice from the Daily Mail aged well:

    upload_2023-6-12_21-0-1.png

He actually went on to say this particular gem:

"When Daniel Levy - nobody's contender for Chairman of the Year 2021 - went in pursuit of Antonio Conte he did not court him with talk of a shortlist of interviewees. He did the deal. Yet if the last few weeks have been a managerial draft, Newcastle had first pick - and they blew it."

Sports journalist must be the easiest job in the world. Honestly, cannot thing of something easier.

He'll need to stay there until he earns about 5.5 Billion to buy us tbh.

It doesn't make sense. Yeh it's the money but I would've thought he had more ambition.

Even going to somewhere like Holland if he isn't getting (or doesn't want) the opportunity in the lower leagues.

Ex players seem to think they can just manage a top team because they played, it's not that simple. Disappointed from a personal point of view because of course I'd love him to be Liverpool manager one day but this move is a huge step in the wrong direction.

Nah, unless he suddenly turns into an elite manger, which i dont think he will and havent since he left our youth set up, he had the opportunity to stay and learn from klopp, manage the youth step up to assistant and then go into proper management or have a chance after klopp leaves but being the character he is he went off and tried to make his own way.

It was a nice dream bro but its over <laugh>

It makes perfect sense to me, he knows he's not cut out for the challenge, did he even ever win a Premier League title? Then went to Villa and we know what an utter shambles that turned into, I can see why he's done a runner, especially as Emery has made him look an absolute turd.

Yeh I agree with that, I've said the same of a number of them. John Terry for all his failings at least seems to be grafting his way into coaching and management.

Doesn't make sense for Gerrard. I could understand if he hadn't managed Rangers to win the league so to move to Saudi so early in his career after achieving that seems absurd.

I'm going to throw this in, I think there's some plan going on here for Saudi to be building a league to rival the European ones (dare I say superleague). Atm they're paying big money for players who are past their best, but with the obscene amounts being thrown around how long before they land a big name in his prime? And once that happens and the dam breaks others will join.

I can see Gerrard with his name in the game, being brought to Saudi as part of the project to do the same with managers as well.
