Whilst I agree somewhat I have to say that Pep has had success in three different countries but has managed probably the best teams in those countries, however he has changed the culture and hoe those clubs play and has built teams that defy how football was played in general across Europe I say in general because we have seen similar before with the Total football of Ajax and when Liverpool dominated Europe. That said the achievements of Clough and Fergie should not be overlooked. but to give some perspective if the gist of what people are saying is to be what it takes to be a great manager (Is Claudio Ranieri to be classed as a great manager ???) I think a treble in the premiership era is to be applauded. as you can only beat what is in front of you and the way city dismantled Real in the semi was something special. The arguments about FFP and what people think of it is a bit frustrating for me, as I see it city were bought and the owners had a plan to build their team and brand, they invested heavily and now have one of the strongest brands in football which has a self sustaining model, they are not heavily in debt like other clubs owing millions back in directors loans to the people who put them in debt in the first place. Yes the money gives them an advantage but no more than other mega wealthy cubs like Man Utd PSG real or Barca, These clubs shout the loudest because as teams like Man City move up the ladder their market share of fans and trophy's is diluted and they don't like it. I am pretty sure that at some point KLD will adopt a similar approach of getting us a very good sponsorship deal to increase our profitability and allow us a greater chance of competing at a higher level in line with FFP but I doubt we would be complaining as loud then.
I don’t think anyone is really complaining about how good City are especially myself, I just don’t believe he is as good a manager as what people make him out to be, the same as with the others you have just mentioned, when you put him against others who haven’t had countless billions to spend and done it through there own skill that puts them above the group you mentioned every day
Fergie had plenty to spend at United just like Shankly at Liverpool but for some strange reason their fans refuse to believe it because it wasn’t the vast sums you see in todays game. They still outspent the majority of their rivals massively.
Everybody has their own opinion and I agree somewhat but I do believe he is one of the best managers of his generation if not the best. If he had been England manager instead of Southgate I believe we would have won at least 1 major trophy by now again only my opinion.
What has always bugged me is the fact that Cloughie should have been England manager, where he said that he would have built the team around Glenn Hoddle, our most naturally gifted player, and we would have played with style, but the F.A. were scared of him 'cos they wouldn't be able to control him, and they appointed the useless Bobby Robson, who ruined Glenn's England career, instead I'm sure that we would have won something with Cloughie in charge
I don't disagree at all my point is these managers are generational and change how we play football it is very difficult to compare as football is an ever changing landscape from working man's game to financial powerhouses made up of Billionaires how can you compare.
Can’t see past Clough personally for what he achieved and more importantly what with, also remember in Europe then you couldn’t have a bad night,it was knockout from the start
Bit harsh on Bobby Robson that mind. I would say his achievements at Ipswich were comparable to Cloughs achievements.
Pep is an unreal manager, best of his era, the football his teams play is unreal and the way he improves almost every player he coaches is the best I've ever seen. Comparing him to the likes of Cloughie is daft, there is no guarantees that Cloughie would have had the success he had if he was a manager these days. They are all great managers for the era's that they were in and all changed the game in their own way. Of course money helps but look at how much money some of the other teams/managers have spent and had zero success. My opinion on Pep is he improves every single team in the world so therefore he is an elite manager
It took Robson 9 years to win his first trophy 12 for his second, so no he doesn’t compare not even a tiny bit
Nobody disagrees with that mate but with what each manager had at there disposal Pep is not in the same league.
As I said you cant compare in different eras. Pep will go down as one of the greatest of all time so therefore is in the same league as the ones mentioned. His Barca team is arguably the greatest team there has ever been, the levels he took that team and those players too was historic - think about 8 of that team were academy players as well Think its an agree to disagree situation here
No problem mate I just go by what a manager does with no money and starting from a low position, compared to a manager starting with a team that had already won the premiership 3 times before he arrived, I don’t even see a comparison to be honest.
