Best Driver: Button, just, from Alonso. Keeping the DRS activated KERS assisted RBR at bay while trying to get his KERS working while adjusting his set-up to keep balance. a great drive. Worst Driver: Taxi for Maldonado, luckily for Massa, his accidents with Hamilton are his only season highlights Best Rookie: Perez Best Team: McLaren Worst Team: Renault Best Overtake:If the Webber/Button incident counts, Buttons part in it, I thought he'd lost the place, great defending. Funniest-moment: The shockingly bad attempts at impressions by MB & DC. Most Surprising Result: there wasn't an incident between Hamilton and Massa Least Surprising Result: Massa Special Mention to: Kobay, good drive from him, waited a while to see that. Alonso, a close 2nd in my DotD Race Rating: 5/10
Best driver - Hamilton. Not a great list to choose from but he always had the race under control from a very good Alonso and drove maturely. First time in a long time he's controlled a race that comfortably. Worst driver - Maldonando. Not fast, poor performance compared to Rubens's good drive to 12th and a complete idiot for trying to race lapping cars. Hand him the dunce cap and let him go. Like a few around him on the grid not good enough for f1. Best rookie - Di Resta. Another good performance from this extraordinarily mature driver. Best team - McLaren. Worst team - Renault. Going backwards but that is no surprise considering the lack of quality they have in the driving department. They have no hope in hell with a line up as average as that. Best overtake - Button taking the place back from Webber. Showing his supreme intelligence once more. Pace was dogged by loss of KERS for most of the race but that was a highlight for him and his fans. Funniest moment - DC's Jackie Stewart impression! Most surprising result - Vettel puncture and retire just seconds into the race! Least surprising result - Williams sadly...again. I've said it before and I'll say it again but this season is the culmination of incredibly poor management and one man has to take the majority of the blame - Adam Parr. Terribly out of his depth and only when they hit rock bottom is he doing something about it. Send him packing. Special mention to - Fernando Alonso. Once again a stark and eye raising gulf in performance between himself and Massa. One win he has had this season but like Button and Vettel, Fernando should be very proud with his driving this year. Race rating - 4/10. There was some decent moments of driving but all in all Abu Dhabi once again provided another dire and forgettable spectacle for the television viewer conveying nothing but a tacky artificial atmosphere, something we have come to get used to with many of these new tracks. Thank god this wasn't the final race for this season. The F1 season will get a deserved farewell in Brazil and I can't think of many better places to wrap the season up. Roll on Brazil!
Best Driver: Hamilton. Worst Driver: Maldonado, as usual. Best Rookie: Close call between Di Resta and Perez, but it has to go to Di Resta for making the wrong strategy work. Look how desperate Senna and Webber were to stay off those tyres! Best Team: McLaren by default. Ignoring Red Bull and Red Bull B, most teams were more or less where you would expect them to be based on recent performance. Worst Team: Red Bull, and I'm dismayed that it has taken this long for someone to say so. To not put either car on the podium is the biggest relative underperformance of the weekend. The tyre failure was most likely down to their tendency to run things extremely marginal, and if they're going to take the credit for getting it right they've got to be prepared to take the flak when it occasionally goes breasts up. Best Overtake: Has to go to Alonso at the start. There were a couple of decent looking ones at the end of the first DRS zone, but I can't remember them sticking. Funniest-moment: Alonso assuming that someone had hit Vettel. Particularly given who started 2nd. Most Surprising Result: Massa bringing the car home in perfect condition Least Surprising Result: Massa not on the podium Special Mention to: Force India. They would have been feeling the pressure heading into this race, and handled it very well. Oh, and Kovalainen for consistently challenging Williams F1 cars in his two year old milk float. Race Rating: 7/10
I think that's a good point about Red Bull. It has been suggested that "camber" was a factor in the puncture. They've been caught out before pushing it beyond Pirelli's safe limit and I think this may be the reason. And yeah, no car on the podium is a major fail for them.
The no RB on the podium is Webbers fault, he is just plain ****e as ive said many times before. Idc if its the tyres or not, it doesnt take a year to get used to them.
