Much preferred the Stones back then when they were still blues based. A good early Jagger/Richards composition with Brian Jones in fine form.
This all depends on how they run Shelbourne to me. I wouldn’t be keen on them only concentrating on running it to become a feeder club. But if they are still able to have their own identity and a legitimate squad with the benefit of talent from us that would usually bypass them, I think I can be ok with it. We’ll see I guess.
Of course, TWT how things go, but I cannot see that it will affect us too much apart from in a positive way by allowing players in the Academy and younger players to get experience playing men's football under some control of the club. Plus having a gateway for European and Irish players could well benefit us. Not sure how this Celi situation could work, would we be able to loan him to Shelburne and have him play there at some point? I guess the only worry would be if this took away funds which might hinder our progress, but I would guess Acun wants us in the EPL, so I am sure he wouldn't let that happen.
One thing is for sure with this purchase is that there's more than just Acun involved financially. Everything suggests he's not got piles of cash to fling at 1 football club let alone 2
I know their's will be considerably lower but the inherit running costs between the 2 suggest that there has to be silent investors. Be it McVities man or others
I just don't see them solely becoming a feeder club, even if they win the Irish league 20 times in a row - for where Acun (we hope) wants to take us are we really going to see an influx of Irish starlets? Or will that even be a standard good enough for our better prospects who need game time? Or if we need to get round Visa situations, will playing in the Irish league for 3 years (or however long it takes) stunt the development enough to make it pointless? Where does the Irish league rank in relation to the EFL?
It's not about Irish players, it's about getting non-European players in playing in Europe that we can then get into the club easier.
I've no idea what the standard of football is like, there's been some good players out of Ireland, so I assume it's half decent. But they're one of the top clubs and have an income and attendances significantly lower than many National League clubs here.
From HCAFC perspective, 2.5 million spent on land for a new training facility might have been a been a better long term investment,..
Sums it up for me really.. It's like a footballing version of homes under the hammer called 'Clubs under the hammer'. Series 1,Episode 2 features a Turkish chap who goes by the name Acun. He's bought a listed property in Hull, huge potential but needs a bit of work, reckons a year will see it bang on target. After the years up,Dion(damp patch) Dublin returns to find the roofs still leaking and the floorboards are up exposing the joists, Acun's not there,he's ****ed off to the Irish Republic to buy a rundown bedsit. What's happened ?asks Dion to the new project manager? Liam explains that he's the third project manager (as the other two have been sacked for their poor joinery skills). He explains that the expensive 'planks' brought in from Turkey last year had woodworm and are undergoing treatment but the good news is we're in the process of bringing in some re-conditioned door frames from Paddy Land and we might give them some of our roof slates in exchange. Dion says he will return for series 2 episode 4 ,he remarks that his socks aren't exactly blown off but ends the programme by noting that young Liams are!!!
