Keeping my petrol Volvo as long and until the government sort out the infrastructure. We like St Ives, Cornwall and visit often but charging points.... they have 4 ......all in Tescos. James May said on Top Gear some years ago that Hydrogen cells were the way to go, rather than electric which is filthy to mine for its heavy batteries, and uses child labour in Africa and Afghanistan to obtain the likes of Cobalt and Lithium. Hydrogen is also the most plentiful element in the world. But as per usual, western governments put the cart before the horse, and try to start bullying everyone into buying this electric rubbish with no infrastructure to support any of it and at an absolute premium price. And the batteries don't have a long lifespan and cost £10k - £15k to replace ! A bit like Net Zero. Clean the planet up ? yes please !!!! Including our own seas and rivers for starters, but don't go signing us up to meaningless global agreements with a handful of countries which just causes everyone pain because you think it makes us look good as a nation. It doesn't. Any while you're there, it's about time water cannon were used to get Just Stop Oil protesters out of the way of decent British people trying to get to work. They are breaking the law by obstructing public highways. This is one occasion I'd like to see the Police be heavy handed with people instead of standing around looking stupid and handing out bottles of water to them.
Peaceful protest is a very important part of our culture, I don’t agree with their methods and it is a nuisance, but the right to do it is really important imo. Many of the rights we take for granted were only achieved by peaceful protest in the past, Todays protests may well be tomorrows main stream. The last thing we want is a more heavy handed police response.
No one is against peaceful protest If these idiots want to stand on the pavement and scream at passing traffic I’d say knock yourselves out. But if they gof in my way I would do exactly what other people are finally doing which is manhandling them out of the way by force. Absolutely agree Ashton. It’s a difficult balance - some of the protests disrupt life, but bring about important changes. My problem is when roads are blocked or disrupted people can’t get to hospital or police can’t get to sort out a crime. Protest is ok with me as long as people are not put at risk. I think if one of the eco-warriors was punched hard and the public blocked an ambulance from getting to them they would feel hard done by.
Peaceful protest is legal, manhandling them out of the way by force is illegal, you are basically endorsing illegality against a legal activity. The police would be entitled to prosecute you, you realise that don’t you. Just because you don’t like what someone else is doing, as long as it’s legal, you don’t have the right to enforce you view by attacking them.
If the only point of blocking the ambulance was to stop someone, whoever they are from getting to hospital obviously that’s wrong. The balance is that disruption for a perceived good cause, by definition, will bring about some regrettable consequences, of else it isn’t disruption. Of course if I was stopped from seeing a relative in hospital by them I’d be livid, but sometimes the good for the many trumps the annoyance of the few. It’s the reason we have the rule of law, rather than mob rule.
Ashton please consider this: The protesters refuse to allow people to take their sick relatives to hospital - they don’t allow ambulances to pass. Now, imagine if someone (understandably) ran over a protester - would they still block the ambulances? I bet not
I don’t know the answer to your question and neither do you. But it’s missing the point. Which is legal protests are the most affective way ordinary people can group together and try to affect change. Anyone no matter how rich or poor, powerful on not can get involved and try to make a difference. I think it’s a vital part of our democracy.
All I can say to this, is that if someone got in the way of me taking a relative or friend to hospital I would absolutely smack them and worry about the legality of that later when they had been treated. I would run over them, barge them, burn them, punch them if needed - but I would bloody well get my relatives where they could get treated. I would stand up ⬆️ n court and declare that if saved their life. I totally get the right to protest. If it would make me late home, or to a meeting then ok, but life and death is different and I would absolutely be prepared to do anything to get a relative to hospital - legal or illegal.

These are clearly people who don’t work, because they come from rich and privileged backgrounds and have no regard for anyone else in their selfish approach, all while wearing garments and carrying backpacks made from oil byproducts Their hypocrisy is laughable As usual in this country the minority get in the way of what the vast majority of people with any common decency want, yet still get no backup from the Police I fully applaud people dragging these zealots out of the way. I’m sure the boot would be on the other foot if this affected you directly of maybe, like them, you don’t care and it’s all about you.
You’re entitled to your views, as they are entitled to theirs, yours however do not trump theirs or prevent them from peacefully protesting
