I suspect none of us will be happy about all choices (leaving or staying) but for now we have to assume the new boss knows the players that will work in his system. In Post I Trust.
As far as I’m concerned he can say he wants rid of any of them that includes Kane. He deserves to work with who he believes he can work with to get the best out of his management.
Davies, like Hojbjerg and Emerson, is a player we should consider moving on next summer, but would provide some important squad continuity for the coming season
I too have always had Davies’ back but if we’re to really begin a heavy rebuild then even those dependable yet not brilliant players should be considered for departure. Just about every Spurs fan wants a ruthless Poch-esque clear out this summer especially as we have no extra European games next season and so that’s going to have to include a few players that are liked and respected at the club. For me personally, just about every player should have their price bar: Kane, Son, Bentancur, Bissouma, Porro, Udogie and despite a below par season Kulusevski.
Football BSider say Lenglet will be the first player out the door (after making no reference to him in the clickbait headline or first two paragraphs of the article...) Technically that's not possible, as he would be leaving at the exact same time as Danjuma if we don't decide to buy him That being said, there has been a 180 from reports we were prepared to make his loan permanent a month ago to sudden radio silence
SpursWeb deciding to dive headlong into Lake Stupid by suggesting Ange wants to get rid of seventeen players this summer
I don’t think it’s that outlandish. The squad is enormous as it is, and we’re likely to need players with different attributes to play Angeball. And many commentators are including the likes of Lenglet and Danjuma as players we’re ‘getting rid of’ even though it’s just loans ending. Even if we just considered Lloris Perisic Regulion Winks Tanganga GLC Tanguy Sanchez One or both of Austin and Whiteman Rodon That’s 10/11 without even making many difficult calls, like Sess, Emerson, Davies, Gil etc.
No problem on paper, not going to happen in reality. A more objective measure would be to rank all said players by degree of "fringe" status, and then see in which weeks (this week is week zero) those players exit the club. So a player with low fringe status who exits soon is obviously one who the manager does not rate, but the predecessor did.
I think something to consider is that we have no European football and even in 4 comps the squad was too big. We will also want to refresh quite a bit of the starting XI. At the moment I would consider Romero Bentancur (when fit) Bissouma Son Kane Kulu As likely clean fits in a starting XI for what I would consider Ange’s style of play based on Celtic. So we need 5 more starters there drawn from signings and the rest of the squad. Now, there are plenty of players in the squad who are less clean fits - the likes of Hojbjerg, Davies, Porro, Emerson, Dier etc. who we might want to keep for another year as rotational options, see if they adapt to the system. It would be madness to do a Forest and bring in lots of players and bin off a lot of the group. That’s a massive risk. The point is that we already have a huge number of first team players on loan this season so between expected outgoings (Lloris, Perisic), moving some of the loan guys on, and the need to refresh the rest of the squad anyway, 17 outgoings wouldn’t be as massive as it sounds in terms of the disruption to the current core group (ie the squad that played out the second half of the season just gone). We were already bloated.
Knowing how wide of the mark SpursWeb tend to be, the odds are they're including a few U21s who trained with the first team in that figure, such as Mundle and Lyons-Foster
I would work on the basis you are active in all possible competitions at all times, whether that is true or not. Therefore I suggest senior squad should be 11 x 2.d in size (where d is closer to 0.5 than 1) .
GK Watch Football BSider are linking us with Dominik Livakovic, claiming that Dinamo Zagreb are willing to let him go for £10m I mean if we have to buy an international No1, I'd take him over Pickford in a heartbeat...
Agree with all that bar your last sentence. Selling Sessegnon is probably the easiest decision the club should have, I make him the unlucky recipient of being the club's worst player right now and I include all of those out on loan too. Dreadful player. EDIT: No one will miss Emerson either, he just went from ultra **** to mildly disappointing and I think it caused some of the fanbase to think he was competent/ good.
Sessegnon's biggest issue is he is a confidence player, yet his confidence is so shaky you can almost literally see the confidence drain out of him and puddle around his boots when he makes a mistake in much the same way that often happened with Jermaine Jenas way back when So just the sort of player who would fit in with the past three seasons where we have systems which are practically begging for players to make individual errors in...
They were just examples. But I agree on Sess, I think his race here is ran. Emerson I could see working if Ange thinks he’s coachable for the role. From what I have watched/read into Ange’s system at Celtic, the FBs invert and mainly have to circulate possession and be aggressive in pressing. The big coaching thing for Emerson in that role would be the pressing (when and how to go). He’s a competent if conservative passer of the ball and a good enough athlete to be an effective presser and still be able to recover. He’s the more likely of the two to survive a cull, IMO.
If anything we more or less got away with that one £25m for one of their top players who is HG? That's the likely asking price for Tino Livramento this summer, and he just came back after missing over a year's worth of football
From a defensive standpoint Emerson is actually very sound, a sort of b-tech Corluka in that regard but from a technical standpoint you'd think Emerson has never played professional football before, let alone be a Brazilian. Always looks so uncomfortable in possession.
Yeah I’d be concerned about him under a press. Like I said, not dead sold on him as an Ange RB. Just think of the two he’s more likely to get a shot.
