Good Morning. It's Wednesday 7th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

NBA Star linked to 49ers consortium

It has been heavily suggested that NBA star Larry Nance Jr is part of the consortium that are buying Leeds Utd. The 6ft 8' basketball player currently applies his trade with the New Orleans Pelicans, some 4,715 miles away from Leeds, so when yesterday, he posted an image on Instagram from within Elland Road, he obviously got tongues wagging.

The 30yo has also been taking a keen interest on twitter, especially where the takeover is concerned. In the past 24 hours, he has made a £2,500 donation to the fundraising page of the Gary Speed Walk, in aid of Andy’s Man Club.

49ers to inject funds for promotion push

According to Elland Road journalist Phil Hay, the buyout of Leeds Utd is now firmly on track, and the 49ers are ready to inject sufficient funds to launch a serious promotion bid. Although the transfer window opens for business a week today, there is fresh optimism within the ranks that Leeds won't be far behind in their
preparations for the new season, which start in 59 days.

“The likely completion of a takeover by 49ers Enterprises would, according to those with knowledge of its intentions for Leeds, result in an increased close-season budget as part of the US group’s plan to inject funds into the club and avoid more than 12 months outside the Premier League.

“Despite the tight turnaround before next season starts, there is optimism that a buyout can facilitate a concerted promotion push, and the buyout is firmly on track after a week of wrangling.”

49ers approached Bielsa about the vacant ER hot seat

With a takeover looming, 49ers Enterprises have been searching far and wide, to find the right man to guide the Whites back to the top flight, leaving no stone unturned. Last month, they even explored the option to bring Marcelo Bielsa back to Elland Road, holding at least one zoom call with the soon to be 68yo Argentine; to see if he's been interest in picking up where he left off. Unfortunately, he opted for Uruguay.

49ers Enterprises has itself been active in browsing the market. It discussed the possibility of going back to former head coach Marcelo Bielsa, sacked by Leeds in February last year, a few weeks ago and held at least one Zoom call with him, shortly before the Argentinian decided to take the job of managing Uruguay’s national team.

    Morning all

I’ve just posted a large post about the 49ers and the investors joining in.

I heard this morning from someone who’s buddies with Gary Mac - He just sent the short message “congratulations on Stevie G”. He’s ignored my attempts to find out more, I’m hoping he’s just winding me up.

To be honest, if we hold on to the backbone of the team and with a couple of proper signings, I think whoever is in charge we have a great chance of promotion, and with American owners, who knows we might hold on to Adams

    Morning all.

    Just on McKennie.

If he was that bad why did he start just about every game for us when available and that was under 4 different coaches ?

Also it seems the much maligned Firpo now has suitors all across Europe which is surely not possible given how crap you all say he is ?

Bottom line is we had decent players but they weren't put together properly to make a good team.

Echoes of 2004. Despite the cliché, that "group" (sorry!) were definitely too good to go down. Mismanagement from the board down got us relegated back then, the players couldn't wait to jump ship.

Who in their right mind would even think about sacking Bielsa then asking him back. He got fat and missed his family. At 68 he has taken an easier job nearer to his home.

You can be a decent footballer and not suited to the pace and physicality of PL football. Firpo, Llorrente both fit in that category to me.

We topped the charts for errors leading to goals... and that's directly leading to a goal... i'd be pretty confident we'd up there for errors indirectly leading to a goal. So depends what your definition of 'putting together properly to make a good team' means. They were put together in a manner where in terms of chances for and against we should have been midtable (which might suggest they were good enough). But we kept making errors at both ends of the pitch. That suggests players who can play ok, but are error prone. Does that make them decent?

He only started every game when Adams tore his hamstring, and McKennie has experience in his role!

Last season if we’d had a top class manager from day one we wouldn’t have been relegated.

Just my opinion of course <ok>

Gerrard's odds have tumbled again. Maybe he's turned Leicester City down.

Odds also reflect the punters betting patterns, not just info on who is actually the leading candidate.

I always say this about the team Bielsa inherited. The season before under Heckingbottam you saw individual moments is talent and skill from all the players but not as a team.
Bielsa came in and made a team play as a team with a clear identity and turned those individual moments into season long performances.

We need a good coach who can come in and do that again.

You're welcome to it and by the way you absolutely may well be right fella.

Any time anyone wants to discuss what a top class manager would have done with the players to stop all the individual fck ups (without replacing the players) I'm open to education on the matter <cheers>

Wouldn't disagree with any of that. But would say that most professional footballers can do it in training. The better ones do it in matches and do it consistently. Which is where i think we've struggled of late. Bielsa created a system where we didn't rely on individual skill but created overloads that got people in space. It's time and space that make players look good in my view.

Let's hope we get someone in who can identify what players can cut the mustard at this level and who can't - and put together a side with a winning identity and mentality.
