My comment was suggesting that In order to play us they’d have to make it to the PL because that’s where we’re heading

I know its like mid 1800's wagon train from New York to California .. wheels keep falling off, direction gets lost and half of them never make it!

to win the championship next season
top 8 ....... I would say are reasonable odds [ maybe Ipswich/ Watford should be longer maybe 20/1
    next 7 ....... I would say are like 33/1 to 40/1
    next 3 ....... worthy of being 45/1 to 66/1
    bottom 6 ....... 66/1 to 250/1

    Leicester 5/1
    Leeds 11/2
    Middlesbrough 10/1
    Southampton 10/1
    Ipswich 14/1
    Norwich 14/1
    Watford 14/1
    West Brom 14/1

    Stoke 20/1
    Sunderland 20/1
    Blackburn 25/1
    Coventry 25/1
    Millwall 25/1
    Sheffield Wednesday 25/1
    Swansea 25/1

    Hull 28/1
    Birmingham 33/1
    Cardiff 33/1

Bristol City 40/1 ... really! 66/1 more like, or higher 120/1
    Plymouth 40/1
    Preston 40/1
    QPR 40/1
    Huddersfield 50/1
    Rotherham 80/1

This just shows the 'power' of being perceived a s a bigger club, or at least one with a PL pedigree. Why else are Ipswich and Sheff Weds higher than longer estabilished Championship clubs such as us, QPR, Preston, or even Plymouth, who finished above both of those teams. Look at Coventry, one penalty kick from the PL this season, but expected to be middle of the pack next season.
Personally, I think Leicester will struggle the most of the 3 relegated teams - we shall see.

I think Leics and Leeds may find it harder than predicted, but I’m usually wrong about these things , which is why I’d never bet

looking through the odds available and pedigree of last season I think the dark horses in the top 8 are Norwich and West Brom?
As for winning the league well Leics should be at least 7/1, SOTON maybe VFM but 8/1, Leeds is tight should maybe be 8/1!
Ipswich is tight, should be 25/1 behind last seasons Middsbhro 12/1, Norwich 14/1, WBA 16/1, Watford 20/1, Sunderland at 20/1

How do you work all that out , guesswork? Surely it’s subjective?

    Edit
I get with horses you can look at previous results, who the jockey/ trainer is, how they perform in different conditions, sort, firm etc, but there are so many variables with how a football team is going to perform it all seems a lottery. For a start we’ve no idea at this point what business is going to be done in the summer transfer window.

Surely at the moment the odds are based more on the number of fans a team has, because that is the most likely factor at the moment to determine how many are going to bet on their own team?

It is difficult to assess granted ... but is not like horse racing in general [ day to DAY ] Briefly horse racing is a balance .. called setting up a book. The bookie! decides he wants a 30% return on turn over on a race, he sets the odds for say the favourite [ likely favourite ] and endeavours to lay odds on other horses to try and win 30% even if the favourite wins. Almost all if not all bookies have "have spies" in stables which could mean they know a horse on it or or not!.
Preseason odds .. should you decide you wanted to list how the 24 would finish up .. say Leics top City 12th QPR 20th and Huddersfield bottom you have the framework for a "book" .. you just add the odds you think.
You might not think Watford has any chance of topping the table so happy to take their bets all day long after all 23 other teams are competing as well!
AFTER THE FIRST KICK OFF you can check your payouts as only 1 will pay out...
AFTER OFFERING WATFORD at 16/1 your total pay out if they win is £32,000 [ recieved £2000 ]
the top 5 in your betting say odds 5/1 .. 6/1 ...7/1 ... 8/1.... 9/1 Leics [ or who might fancy ] might attract home fans and a lot of "follow the money punterrs" so you could finish up paying out £40,000 [ recieved £8,000 ]
    Teams 2 3 4 & 5 might pay in £7k/£6k /£6k and £5k .... so pay out is £42k .. 42k .. 42k and £45k ......
If these were the only bets you had taken you could be facing a loss worse case scenario of £16k ... but you have the income of 18 other teams = need to take in at least £1,000 on each to break even show a small profit!
    ANY Q's there is more!
