Sunderland media and fans have done marks out of 10 for every player so if we are to keep Joffy it has to be as a 9.5 second striker behind the 9.
    11. Joe Gelhardt - From Leeds (loan) - 6.5/10
The 21-year-old’s loan spell from Leeds could have been very different if Ross Stewart had been available, or Sunderland had managed to sign another striker on deadline day. Instead, Gelhardt was asked to lead the line rather than playing as a second striker as he has done at previous clubs. The forward’s work rate could rarely be questioned, yet Sunderland didn’t get the best out of him. 6.5

Joffy ain't the one to win us this league next season. He's not the answer.

If you subscribe to the views of the owners of Middlesbrough and Birmingham regarding his transfer dealings… it could be argued that monk’s reasons for not wanting a DOF may not have been football related.

    some good points foolee.

Re Rasmus. It was a surprise to all of us that we got a right back not a left back. My feeling is that ayling was a long term injury at the time. It’s hard to be sure that he’d come back as early as he did or without ongoing problems. They were trying to convince drameh to stay but maybe weren’t sure they’d want to risk him as possibly our only recognised option.

Drameh has excelled in a back 5 where his mobility and willingness to get forward are showcased. What he’s like in a back 4 at senior level is unproven. Certainly now we’re in the same league he’s done well in, confidence would be higher… and the new manager may favour a 5.

Lots of speculation re our new head coach, but what or who would be the ideal criteria for the fans. Do you prefer a Bielsa type coach who will light up football or a George Graham type who locks the back door and gets results?

With the financial advantage we have we should look at a possession based team who should be able to bully teams in this league. Go buy the best defender, best midfielders and best striker in this league and bully the division.

Not sure I'd use the term bully but you definitely have to dominate the opposition through a combination of playing out from the back and keeping possession. However it has to be dynamic and lead to chances created as otherwise teams will sit back and frustrate you all day long in the Championship. What you can't do though is try to go toe to toe physically with the likes of Millwall etc as we always come off second best.

Anyway looking forward to it as it's the most competitive League in the world apparently.

Yeah, my post didn't really make it clear. I meant bully as in financially bully. Go and buy the better players from teams in this division. That weakens them and strengthens us. That's what I meant when I said bully this division.

That would mean we have one of the best squads, so possession football would be the sensible move.

YEP now have Carlos Corberan as firm fav to take the job due to the director who took him to WBA leaving last week.

Man Utd, Newcastle and Brighton now trying for Tyler Adams as well as clubs in Germany, Italy and Spain

Over 46 games to be successful you have to play good football but also you need to have better strikers/attackers as that's what wins games at Championship level. The good news is our defence will concede way less than the last 3 seasons as they won't be facing the same quality and pace of opposition anymore.

Leicester & Southampton will the main challengers with their PL leftovers you would have thought.

Just noticed on the Bundesliga pages that Daniel Farke has parted ways with Gladbach, got Norwich promoted twice, better option than some of the names being touted?

I'm not that impressed with him.

Promoted, relegated, promoted, relegated (mostly his work but sacked before actually relegated)

We’d only need him for one season. Job done.

Farke and Parker seemed to have similar problems… they could get their sides to score but struggled to organise them defensively.

As for getting promoted and then relegated. Does that make them ‘championship’ managers who can’t cut it in the Prem? Or is it as simple as their squads were in the top 2/3 in the champ and yet the worst 2/3 in the Prem?

    Not us though.

We're way better than Bournemouth, Forest, Fulham and quite a few others so there's no way we can be relegated <ok>
