Just checked through the threads and can't see this topic, but apologies if already posted. Check out this scoreline AFC Totton 8 Bradford PA 1 Would have liked to have gone today, but the same old problem occurred - work. Got to pay those bills. Apparently Totton's ground was nearly full at a 2,315 attendance. I was able to occasionally tune in to the match commentary, and it just seemed that the scoreline couldn't stay the same. It just grew and grew. Must have been the massed ranks of Saints fans going that helped them along. Round 2 for Totton, and a long trip back home for Bradford. Former league side too. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15605006.stm
i went today - what a game it was ! bradford players were stupid, silly silly red cards and that cost them the game early on IMO
I think that's the other Bradford side I maybe wrong though but I don't think Bradford PA have ever made it into the football league.
The one we are going to break? And Bradford PA are in the same tier as AFC Totton by the way, ie not the Bradford that are currently in League 2.
We're both right. This Bradford Park Avenue were formed from the defunct club, simply called Bradford, in 1974 [I've looked it up]. Plus, from memory, I'm pretty damn sure I've heard Tim Gudgin, the retiring BBC football results announcer mention the results of both Bradford and Bradford City in the football results at the end of play on Saturdays, long ago, when I was a lad in the 1960-70s. That's how much useless football trivia wanders around my head, at any one time, and how long Tim Gudgin has been doing his job..!
Second Stain I think BPA were formed earlier than that. The whole saga of the Bradford clubs originated in switiching codes from Rugby to football which had become increasingly more popular towards the end of the 19th century. Bradford city were originally know an Manningham and started off as a rugby club. It wasn't a success and they changed codes to football in 1903. Prior to their election to the league they had never played football before. The second team in the town, called simply "Bradford" continued to play football as thier proposal to switch codes was rejected by it's members. Interestingly, there was massive antagonism between the two teams as the latter were resolutely middle class whereas City came from a working calss community. Originally, it was intended to merge the teams when "Bradford" appreciated that football was a more viable alternative than rugby. The fact that city looked like being promoted to the First Division around the same time and required a larger stadium also mean;t that they could not afford another rival in the city. The original "Bradford" team changed its name to "Bradford Park End" are tried to join the second division of the football league but City objected . Consequently BPE then joined the Southern League which ultimately prevented them competing with City albeit they had good quality players in their team. The next years then enrolled in the FL but dispite winning promotion in 1914, the war broke out and they were never able to gain anything other than lowly status. They wne tbankrupt in 1974.
