He usually plays in a back three now. Pep prefers Stones or Lewis as the inverted right-back who moves into midfield alongside Rodri.
The next generation certainly are. Salah who we had from Arsenal was quite the deviant by the sounds of it. Few other players we’ve had over recent years have done some questionable things too.
I don’t think it’s a generational thing. I just think clubs and coaches had better damage control 20-30 years ago. Alex Ferguson shielded the deviants in the Man Utd dressing room. Other managers probably did the same. Safeguarding young lads who have too much fame and money too soon is crucial in football, especially regarding safe and consensual sex, drugs and alcohol.
They need to tackle at scholarship level now, they get the mentality they’re above everyone and can do as they like especially when it comes to women.
Nah He's a top player. Having pace doesn't take you from average to where he's at. Strength, composure, reading the game, tackling ability, etc. For the big matches he'd be 1 of the 1st names on the team sheet for me. Pep has the luxury of being able to look after him
by average, i mean a decent prem player but not a top player his reading the game and awareness are not his strenghts, his pace is huge for helping out in that and he nullifies mbappe and vinicus
Connolly's a tricky one. Avoid at all costs: Toe, bird, fashion sense. Snap him up: Narky bastard, eye for goal, not actually a dwarf. If Rosie's prepared to smarten him up and buy him a sensible titfa' then I'd take a risk on a season long loan.
he's scored 9 in 76 wouldn't say he's too prolific plus he's only played about 23 games in almost 3 years
Think Ernie saying another season on loan would make the most sense if Rosie feels it’s a worthy decision. Adds something different and protects us from tying him down long term, as Rosie seems to get a lot out of him and if it doesn’t work it could very well end up like most of his spells elsewhere under a new gaffer
I wouldn't describe Celtic as being 'massively better' than Rangers but there's certainly a gulf in class which Beale needs to deal with and he'll be given a limited amount of time in which to achieve that. The signing of Todd Cantwell was a good bit of business and if he can unearth 4 or 5 of a similar standard, Rangers will be looking to mount a challenge this season. Postecoglou brought about a whole new feeling and mentality into Celtic Park and is a shrewd operator in signing some real talent but the signs are that Tottenham are in for him in a big way and there's speculation growing that 'Brenda' Rogers could be about to step in if Postecoglou goes. I quite like going to the occasional game up here and it's almost impossible to gauge it against English Football...If truth be told it's damn nigh impossible to compare it.
If reading the game and awareness were not among his strengths, players like M'bappe and Vinicius who are v quick themselves would have exposed him. They didn't. He made them look ordinary.
Omobamidele? Surprised he hasn’t been called up for Ireland. Norwich apparently rejected a £20 million bid from a PL team in January. Speaking of which, I think the mood on this board regarding Greaves has shifted from one extreme to the other. Last summer many considered him a £10 million+ player on here; now people are saying we should take £5 million and run if we get an offer. If Norwich value Obobamidele as more than £20 mil we shouldn’t undervalue Greaves. Young, left-footed English centre-halves are in short supply. I don’t think there’s any benefit to the club in selling Greaves for less than 8 figures this summer unless we’ve reached our FFP limit and need to pay decent money for other players in other positions.
Rico Lewis is only 5’7 so would not be in contention for a place in our team. And, at 18 he has another 5 years before he would be considered and even then described as a young lad learning his trade.
