He's absolutely going to the PL, not to us.

Not really “football manager logic” we are very lightweight in midfield, that needs rectifying.

No chance. He’d cost far more than we could afford, I think both Burnleh and Sheffield United want him.

Connolly isn’t coming back, unless something has changed today, he’s apparently off to the SPL.

    Difference of opinion here.

    I'll go Bundesliga...

All joking aside,I thought he looked a very decent player, the type of link up player we should be looking to recruit. If not him(through finances),then who?

It'll be the injuries that put us off. Rosenior clearly loved him when he was playing but he's talked a lot about getting robust players in and Connelly seemed to have a few different problems in the closing months of the season.

I agree he was out injured for a long time(toe apparently) and in terms of value it was becoming a bit risky but from what I saw of him he looked a tricky, gritty, skilful player and that's exactly what we are looking for? He was gushing about Rosenior when he came to us and I feel that he is exactly the type of Coach to get the best out of players who trust him.

But here's the million dollar question...If he wasn't injured do you think we would've made a serious bid for him?Someone is going to take a punt on him and we may end up with egg on our chin if his career takes off elsewhere and we've missed a trick.

I completely agree with you about his quality as a player, and I don't think many people would've disagreed before his injuries came about. I'm sure we would've gone for him without the injuries, but Rosenior must have lost faith in his robustness during that spell out.

I've seen enough of him at Aberdeen (granted, not live, but the SPL is on all the time in our house thanks to my Weegie wife/MiL) to say he's not what Ireland needs ahead of Macca, who brings a lot more.

Scales is a more traditional centre half, a bit more like Jones, but Ireland have that in Collins and Egan. There's the fella at Norwich whose name I cannot pronounce unless I've had a lot of rum, that's also good and he didn't get called up either.

A fit Connolly in the SPL will rip it up. Below his level that.

I hardly ever watch any PL, but I think that Man City have changed their system so that Stones now pushes up from CB into being the extra midfield player.

It depends on which team he signs for. Celtic, on the one hand, are now massively better than any other team in that division. Rangers and Hearts come some way behind and the others are also-rans, true. Celtic almost treat the league like a succession of friendlies in prep for Europe, save for the derby games. On the other hand, given his injury problems, it's somewhere he could go to prove fitness and quality.

Suppose he could go across to Belgium or Holland, he'd do well there as well.

Stones or Rico Lewis usually plays as one of the two holding midfielders next to Rodri in a 3-2-4-1 when they have the ball (which is most of the time). However, when they defend, Stones/Rico Lewis plays as a right-back and the system becomes their pretty standard 4-3-3. Akanji, Dias and Aké are the back three in possession usually but when defending it becomes a back four of Stones/Lewis - Akanji - Dias - Aké with Aké being a left-back.

In theory, this system could work for City as Greaves could play the same role as Aké.

    Darlow
    A. Jones - McLoughlin - Greaves
    Christie - Seri
    Allahyar - Traoré/Tufan - Slater - Vaughan
    Óscar/Tetteh

All theoretical of course though. Liverpool have tried it too with Alexander-Arnold being one of the holding midfielders in possession.
