You can do the course online. She wanted to do it privately to avoid the potential embarrassment of being on a Zoom call with us plebs.

Just had a YODEL delivery .stated on the e mail will leave in a safe place and take a photo.. ...
Well today is recycling day for us so recycling goes out in front garden .. Yodel left the parcel [ worth £98 ] along with the recyling, placed behind it so not exactly seen from path! .. on the CCTV at end of road a large lorry with men in Hi Viz jackets approach .. about 2 mins away!!!

What would have happened if I was not having a cup of tea and making a hospital appointment and had chose the garden instead of my study ? ....

A lot of councils want to give residents up to 6 different coloured bins for collection
Way to waste a load more Council Tax and have peoples properties congested with bins even if they have the space to store them in the first place !
Bristol Waste are already millions of pounds in debt due to bad management !
So rather than supply endless bins. which will cost literally millions of pounds to source and administer, why not pay a few more people to sort rubbish and recycling by hand at the depots?

    I fear so
Like most things around here !
I’m currently in Birmingham getting quietly pissed before I see Roger Waters farewell performance tonight

just read that Woking Council have had government commissioners called in as they are a quite staggering £1.9 billion, yes billion in debt !
It’s annual budget is £24m and it’s reckoned by 2026 the debt will be £2.5bn or over 100 times their budget
    They are Lib Dem run

Under the present regime in Bristol which we have had for Decades we will never get VFM with our council tax ... Bristol has 1000's of council houses, which are mostly tightly packed whereas longer standing private dwellings have more space, or are converted in the case of 3 or 4 floor/+basement are converted into Flats or offices [ high % is offices ]. Historically council rented homes are labour voters. Looking at the map of council house distribution and comparing to voting pattern within the constituency reflects the % difference of votes to house/ area type.
It will be a long time before Bristol ever gets anything other than a Labour controlled council so what the council says goes..... 3 bins 6 bins Black/brown/ green/blue/ next will be red/ pink / grey/ purple ................

To have that that level of debt it makes you wonder just what on earth is going on there !
Councils that can’t manage their budgets, and get that hugely in debt, irrespective of which party it is should lose a large percentage of future votes as a penalty
    It’s just irresponsible

<doh> Is that your view of democracy ? Taking votes away, each vote is an individuals assessment of their council, you can’t take peoples votes away from them . What a daft idea, not your brightest moment!!

What would your answer be Ashton?

In my opinion this didnt happen over night, indeed must go back a few years .. 20 years it is £100m per annum ...... thats 4 times its annual budget!!!!!

The council will have debts of £2.4bn by 2026, the review revealed, 100 times the size of its annual £24m budget, and making it England’s most indebted council relative to its size with a notional debt of £19,000 a head for each of its residents.
The well-to-do commuter town’s residents now face drastic cuts to local public services as £11m is axed from its budget over the next three years. Council leaders must make “hard political decisions” over the next few months, the review said.
The review also raised concerns about a series of smaller deals by the council, including a £6.4m loan to a local private school, and more than £2m spent on buying two local pubs, one of which was subsequently destroyed in a fire.

    No
I’m saying that an unfit council to that level of financial incompetence isn’t fit to govern it’s people

The point of democracy though is the people decide who govern them, your opinion is just that, your opinion, you get your chance to put your x against your chosen candidate, everyone else gets their chance too, the candidate who most people believe is best suited wins.

it is deeper seated than it appears! I did mention the trading estates and the top notch companies, not been there for about 9 years or so but apparently the debt is all loan borrowings and is taking up almost a half of its income in interest payments. They invested in posh high rise buildings etc and got stung with Covid ... as did many companies and a few councils!

Great when it comes off terrible when it doesnt ... have been advised to take out a £300m loan to save £400m loss ... thats a dodgy manouvre! .. ok if it works, as income stream will go into the future income and enhance the £24m a year they get from the council tax .....
Wonder why they bought 2 pubs? .. one burnt down shortly after!!!!!

So by the same token it sounds like you're quite ok with Woking being billions in debt and want them to carry on in the same fashion ?
The people in charge of Woking need to be accountable to the Government and it sounds like they should be taken over by people who can actually run a budget.

Didn’t Woking just get taken over by the Lib Dems after the Tories racked up obscenely large debts in the billions? I think they deserve a chance despite being dealt such a laughably bad hand by their predecessors.

I do have an idea and it was the Tories. The Lib Dems are good but not good enough to wipe away £2.4bn of incompetence in four weeks.

I dont know where your 4 weeks or Lib Dems comes from ..again no real research attached to your comment !................. In 2022, the Lib Dems took overall control of Woking, [ not 4 weeks ago ] which until that time had been "run" by a minority Conservatives administration. No party had an advantage and no coalitions. So everything that took part in the previous years was at the "vote yes or no" stage by the whole council. SO dont just blame the conservatives.

To help you understand the debt it was the result of spending money on 2 [ 3] major projects building a number of high rise blocks of over 30 [ + ] floors and replacing over 100's of houses on a run down estate along with other regegeneration projects
