Frustrating that it seems like any of our good players all likely to leave and we won't be able to retain a couple of them to help the promotion push.
He was linked with a fair few clubs before he signed for us, I doubt his sporadic appearances for us have put off anyone who wanted him in Jan
Im sure anyone who has a better offer to go will want to go, whether they actually do go is another matter. Pedro and Sarr at Watford spring to mind. I’m sure this time last season everyone thought both of them would be off in the summer and both stayed as the offers weren’t good enough for Watford to accept. Whether we would stand in the way of anyone who wants out and a reasonable offer comes in remains to be seen, but it feels like a full rebuild this summer so wouldn’t surprise me if we just let anyone go who wants to
Who knows, too early to know at this point. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were happy to just get our money back on him if he does want out
I get the good players who have been here a while and are moving on. But the middle tier of players who either struggled at PL level but may be decent in the Championship, or have promise but didn’t really break through getting linked away are extremely frustrating.
Reinforces the opinion that we do actually have a decent squad that has just been poorly managed with the number of players it appears are wanted by levels above the Championship
Not least because we would have paid an agent fee and a loyalty bonus to him that we pay unless he hands in a transfer request. At least that is what I assume still happens
Just missing a decent striker and then compounded everything with some well known terrible managerial changes
I know it's cliché and always gets said but... some serious names in that division next season. Who are people most looking forward to playing/visiting?
Yep. Getting a promotion next season will be a challenge. There is a lot of very good work required. My son is a Leeds follower these days so expect last day match or playoff drama to decide which of us get back to the EPL.
We had some talent, but the problem is that our talent is good at things other than scoring goals and keeping goals out of the net. JWP, KWP, Lavia and Alcaraz in particular are good players, but they aren't forwards.
I don't read that as him "wanting" out at all. I think if we want him to stay (and we should) then we tell him he's staying.
I kinda thought that too (clutching at straws) That being said, it's naive to think he would still be here if a suitable offer came in from a decent team.
Absolutely. But he's there openly saying he'd stay and help fight to get the team back up. As long as an Arsenal don't come in (which they won't) then he stays. There's a loose rumour that Villa might be interested, but if it's Everton offering £15m or something, sod that.
Most players are young enough to say to them "give us a year to get back in the PL - if we fail, you can go next summer". Unless you're Lavia, who is interesting the top clubs.
Yeah, this is where I am with it. If Brighton come in for Alcaraz, it could be an issue, but I think we need to stay strong with the majority of them.
