It’s beginning to be difficult to see how Levy’s position is tenable as the face of this project. Spurs as a club seem to have taken on a toxic label and he would appear to be a massive part of that. His expectations of what can be achieved and how he can act appear to have been massively inflated after lucking out on appointing the perfect manager at the perfect time, who was actually his backup option. Munn taking over officially can’t come soon enough. I know little about him but a different face in negotiations would be a good start. Levy can sign the cheques if that makes him feel less emasculated. Levy deserves all the credit in the world for recognising what the club need to financially bridge some of the gap, and delivering it, and all the criticism in the world for not having the ability and mentality to deliver a coherent vision and plan for the football club afterwards.
On the contrary, the only sensible criteria for appointing a coach is how he will fit in and whether what he says in the hiring process is consistent with what he does (departure from the latter is also a good reason for sacking him). My posts about coaches have all been about data NOT mattering because the maths tells me it doesn't help.
I think this especially is bang on. We are now a toxic club. For years we’ve all joked about certain other clubs on the rival thread being toxic and their job being a poisoned chalice but now it’s us. Our fans practically hate a number of our players, the majority are now at the very least leaning towards “ENIC Out” where for many years they were the minority, Star player doesn’t seem to be in a rush to commit and who’d blame him and our stadium has been a larger version of Boooodison Park this season. The fact the club still has the audacity to charge the highest season ticket prices and also raise OH memberships next season just shows how out of touch they are with its fanbase. I honestly fear for next season now after all these rejections, especially if Kane makes any public statement about wanting out. I said it on the rival thread but without Kane we’re basically Everton.
As one of the minority I am taking a break from toxic social media. From all the posters here and elsewhere who know how everything works at the club, who have managed successfully multi million pound companies, who say Levy is all about profit and money ( surely if this was true he would have cashed in with Kane to £ity, he would have taken £50mill for Dele etc ) and who think the solution is for ENIC to walk away and for us to have a new chairperson ( because other wealthy club owners are all successful- see Everton, Chelsea at present, Leicester among others ). No club has the right to demand to win and be the best. We are one of the top 10 clubs in the country; in my eyes that is not too bad. Yes I get depressed (very and possibly too depressed, after a defeat ) and maybe a break will do me good. See you all next season- after I renew my season ticket because I am TTID.
I'm sure prospective Chelsea managers look at how they are a managerial graveyard and have pause for thought too Oh wait...
The majority of Chelsea managers have won trophies there since the Roman era began. Trigger happy definitely but graveyard? Doubtful.
They trashed Potter's reputation in less than six months The weird thing about Chelsea is they seem to win things in spite of their manager, which is why they can win things one minute and the next the club experiences a blip which rapidly balloons into yet another catastrophic slump followed by yet another sacking as happened with Scolari, Ancelotti, the ubermensch, Conte, Sarri, Tuchel et al, and that doesn't really happen with other clubs...other than clubs that happen to hire the ubermensch, Conte or Tuchel, of course
Money is more important than coaches in who wins things...it's possible but quite hard to **** up despite having money and to win things without it you need all the stars aligned.
Look after yourself and have a great summer mate. Hopefully the calmer nature of the debates will continue into the new season.
What calmer nature? If we finish 8th that's still actually better than our average before ENIC over almost any period you select. Yet somehow it's now a disaster.
The position isn't the most complete disaster, it's the manner of it. No one - and I don't care how positive or glass half full some are - no one is enjoying watching Tottenham nowadays. Then you also factor in what fans are paying and being served up, that's why there's so much disgruntlement. You'd be pissed off if you went to a Ramsay or Pierre-White restaurant and got served a Tesco ready meal.
I would say it’s a disaster as it’s the lowest we’ve finished in years. We should be much better than 8th place finishes, we’ve progressed since ENIC took over but now we’re regressing. We expect better than 8th place nowadays. I fail to see how anyone can think whats going on at our club at this moment in time is not a disaster. No European football, the toxic atmosphere around the whole club, no manger, no DOF and star striker future up in the air just to name a few.
You're going to have to lower your expectations mate. I've been through what Tottenham are about to go through, so you should all listen, but of course you won't.
