Jose was a vanity appointment. Conte made a bit more sense from a squad suitability standpoint but was always going to be a combustible, imperfect match. Both were brute force attempts to bring a trophy to the club. I agree with the fact that there is no guarantee of future results but Slot’s fundamentals matched what the club and fans want in a way that other candidates since Poch haven’t. I don’t see a way forward now that doesn’t involve Levy rowing back. - on the basis of all reports it seems fairly clear what Nagelsmann wants. Give it to him - attempt to ‘Willian’ Chelsea with Poch, if that’s even possible now - get whatever DoF we’ve been chatting up confirmed immediately and brief that we always wanted the director before the manager. That still leaves us up **** creek though, but might make the picture clearer for candidates for the coaching job
Agreed with mourinho and conte being the highest of profile (although jose was on downward trajectory). Totally disagree with part in bold. For a couple of reasons: 1. You are applying this to managers, so why not players or even chairman 2. You mention this and then advocate for mason over rodgers as rodgers history suggests hes ****, after stating we shouldnt look at history!
There is some evidence that there are a few managers who outperform. If Rogers was one of those he has had plenty of opportunity to show it. Mason hasn't. I do apply it to Chairmen and players. It's why I don't think there is a sustainable edge to be had in player recruitment. However individual player ability is much easier to assess than coaching ability and most people agree on the very best players. The main job of the chairman is to increase income. That is measurable and ours is doing fine on that measure. Almost nothing else leads to actionable data By the way, I am not saying that coaches don't have different abilities, just that the differences are not detectable in the data
Because Football isn’t maths…you have to feel your way through the current state of play at a football club or with an individual at the club and deal with it as per required…you can’t ignore the psychology of the moment when it comes to Football…business and maths minds can’t see this.
Lyall Thomas reckons we didn’t wanna pay Feyenoord’s asking price of €10m for Slot as well as €5m for his coaches. It’s mad how we’re frugal on key, potentially game changing targets but will happily chuck £60m at ****cunts like Richarlison. Some rando says we’ve offered Rodgers the job. Though Miguel Delaney says Postecoglou could now be the primary candidate.
My point was you mention history is not an indicator of future performance yet all i hear is how well levy has done since 2008. We shouldnt even be looking at this if we go by that logic
And why do you believe Lyall? Was he party to any negotiations? Maybe he was so wrong, he needs to turn the table
Whether data is statistically significant depends on the nature of the data and how many other variables can affect the outcome. History can be a very good indicator in certain situations and completely useless in others. The secret is to know which is which. eg Sprinters' historical times are a very good indication of who might win a race. Lottery numbers are completely random.
yep, he certainly fits the mould of the young project manager. Only 57. Yet Nagelsmann, 35 years of age, isn’t of interest.
A chairman with any kind of sporting ambition for the football operation would go out there and get Nagelsman in double quick time, give him the DOF he wants and slap a £200m transfer kitty on the table for this summer. Unfortunately, this is Levy, who wants everything done within his own budget and only to a level that might get us 4th place if the manager works miracles. Top managers have looked at what serial winners like Mourinho and Conte have done at Spurs and will be running a mile unless Levy pays them a kings ransom to join.
If I were a betting man right now I’d probably chuck a tenner on Rodgers, to RCL’s delight. Poch - we don’t want Nagelsmann - we don’t want/ he rejected us due to DoF situation Kompany - renewed at Burnley Slot - renewing at Feyenoord Alonso - said he’s staying at Bayer De Zerbi - no chance Frank - not been heavily linked Amorim - pretty sure he recently said he’s staying Enrique - apparently being eyed up by Napoli to replace Spaletti who’s leaving and taking a sabbatical. So it’s likely down to Postecoglou, Rodgers and Mason. Or maybe we’ll go back for Fonseca after mugging him off pre-Nuno.
