Tilly, Slot is in the Dutch league. We ain’t talking about Pep here. Regardless of whether it’s Spurs or whoever, there is a food chain in football and a top 10 premier league club is an upgrade for any manager. There’s no excuse for us not being able to land him.
Luckily our fanbase aren't overreacting in any way, shape or... Oh who am I kidding? I've already seen the term "criminal negligence" being used unironically like Levy was the shift manager at Chernobyl or something
But he’s in a winning team enjoying success. I’m not talking about elite managers. I’m talking about those that are winners. Slot is now a winner and wants to continue winning. We don’t offer that option. So we need to identify a manager that is capable of becoming a winner.
It's not a matter about lowering expectations...Mourinho and Conte were the highest profile managers Spurs have ever had. The issue is what the selection criteria should be. Previous performance is not a guide to future performance. It's therefore perfectly reasonable to go for a cheap option and spend the money saved on better players. But if the choice is between Rogers and Mason I would choose Mason simply because Mason is an unknown quantity and therefore slightly more likely to be one of the few really good coaches.
Confirmation bias. People want to blame Daniel Levy but according to Slot it was all just rumours. So do we believe the hacks who make things up to sell their stories or do we believe Slot? It's why I've given up paying much attention to what the journos are writing. Everyday teams/players ( not just us ) are linked with players/teams. It's a case of if we link Maddison with 7 teams , one will be right and we can say ' told you so'. Are we back to square one as people are saying or are we in exactly the same place because Slot was never really a target? It was all made up. Or does it really matter because we will announce a new manager next week. I never believed we would announce one before the end of the season. It wouldn't be fair to Ryan ( unless he gets the job ). It's also why I don't accept the whole idea that x didn't sign for us because we didn't offer enough. Who knows what the truth is behind the scenes? Most of the defenders we were linked with last summer stayed at their clubs so they weren't even for sale. Did we miss out on Grealish because of a few million or was he always going to £ity for 100 mill which we would never have paid and only a money team would pay.
De Zerbi but once again what’s the attraction? stick Kane in his Brighton team and they finish 3rd above the Toon so why would he bother?
I don’t think anyone has actually blamed Levy for this…what we might blame Levy for is the whole state of affairs over the course of the last 4 years that might be making us look un attractive to everyone it seems so the blame trickles with every possible dead end we hit…he is the boss so the buck is stopping with him. and Jack Grealish himself said that he wanted to join but we were playing silly beggars with the fee…it’s on record.
While there's plenty of finger-pointing at Dan KP and Alasdair Gold with the usual shrieks of "client journalism", funnily enough there's significantly less aimed at Romano for saying the exact same things they were But I guess it's harder to rope him (or de Telegraaf) into some COYSAnon conspiracy bollocks...
Yeah you’d have to be mad to leave them for us at the moment. No way De Zerbi will leave this summer. Bissouma’s probably punching a wall right about now
The thing with Grealish is we dithered, so by the time we made an offer the club was in the process of a takeover so he wouldn't be sold One thing that I do wonder is, as this was at the time Poch was rejecting suggested signings like Tielemans or Asensio, how much of that dithering was down to the club not taking a proactive stance - and, potentially, how much was down to Steve Hitchen having to badger Poch into signing off on an approach?
Don’t bring up the Grealish stuff again, lads. I only just got over the pain from that a couple months back!
