I am not at all underwhelmed. Seems like a good manager with a clear philosophy. What will ‘whelm’ me one way or the other will be the transfer dealings we make this summer. We need to sell fast and replace with purpose. I don’t want to se us signing 15 players. 5 or 6 really excellent players (for Championship standard) are needed. And let’s not just sign youth either. We beed Romeu types.
It doesn’t really matter who the manager is,but imo I think it’s a good appointment, the club need to sort out the ****ing piss poor recruitment of which has been **** for years. Back Martin with the right players and I’m sure he’ll do well, give him the **** we’ve been dealt with and he’ll struggle. Welcome to Southampton FC Mr Martin
On my most optimistic day we will finish just below the middle..on my least optimistic day….. You don’t want to know.
Happy with that, thanks Ruben although I can't say that i'll miss you (can you take Mo El with you please?).
Key thing here is Jason Wilcox being instrumental. That will get haters of Rasmus off this guys back.
Good point. As per usual I will give him my full support and hope that we start to win/draw more games than lose. Ok so 37% win rate not in the PL but 30% would have kept us up this year. My main concern is the SMS atmosphere which for obvious reasons has been getting more toxic and I hope that a couple or so early successes might get the crowd off the backs of the players. We're going to have to patient and more supportive.
To be honest, all we really need to see from the off is an identity and an obvious way you can see we’re trying to play. That was the shocking thing with NJ, after all the time he had over the break, even in the first game you could see the players had no clue what they were meant to be doing. It’s been far, far too long since we had a playing identity as a club.
I think it's safe to say that we know what to expect from Martin's team, it'll be possession based with an attacking purpose and a press out of possession. Whether we have all of the players to thrive in this system is a bit too early to tell (although Lavia would've been great). I think that Smallbone in particular could have a big season for us but I would like to see a player signed that will be an obvious captain to lead the team, whether that is a CB or CM.
I like that his name is easy to pronounce and I have also already memorised Russell Grant's name so I am doing well so far. 'ang about...
