A typically English performance. Written off by most and with their backs against the wall they managed to produce a very spirited display. Give credit where it's due.

Cracking display and result, a tactical masterclass from Capello. Parker immense again, how some of our fans don't rate him I'll never know! Lescott excellent again. Phil Jones is just top class.

 

Is 'parking the bus' Tactical master class? No!

Parker did play well, he got the tackles in and made important interceptions but after doing those things he always gave the ball away! You cannot do that against the top teams

Jones was anonymous, didn't hear his name at all, didn't even see him do anything noteworthy tbh

The performance was a typical Italian style game - ****ing **** to watch! and if we play like that again then it'll be another disappointing tournament to watch.

The only way we were going to score was by a set piece, because Spain aren't the best when it comes to set pieces (especially with most of their player being 5ft tall)

In all, lucky to win that game, if Spain had been at the races then we would have easily lost that game

 

England are **** and were lucky yesterday! now we will think we can win the euro's and that Cappello isn't boring the **** out the nation.

 

Did well to beat the best team in the world, but i can see the media ( especially SSN ) gettin all hyped up about it, claiming how England are back and the young lads are some of the best in the world.

I've lost all my passion for England, we scored against the best national team in the world and i didn't even cheer it, fair enough it was a friendly, but i didn't feel the love that i do for Newcastle.

Defending is part of the game also. It undoubtedly is a tactical masterclass to win against a team and squad which are significantly more talented than you. If you call that parking the bus football, then you don't understand the art of defending. Its kinda of why you have managers afterall. Its like Mourinho turned over Barca with Inter or won the CL with Porto. Yes its a tactical masterclass. You watched a different Parker to me, I imagine his pass completion was very decent. Jones played superbly well carrying out a role that was crucial to frustrating Spain. It clearly worked and I'd watch it again and see just how many interceptions etc he made, just how many excellent defenisve midfield positions him and Parker took up. That takes massive discipline. I suppose you'd rather us attack them all guns blazing and get tonked 6-0? We ain't going to beat the current Spain team by outplaying them at passing football. We're not good enough. Truth be told, we're nowhere near good enough! So our manager came up with a plan to win and did so. How any England fan complains with this is absolutely beyond me. It wreaks badly of the "I dislike Capello so refuse to give him any credit and I don't accept we're not that good" syndrome!

 

i see the spain squad are up in arms about our 'negative tactics' saying thats why we won. I agree with them, it was very unfair that we asked our defenders to do their job for 90 minutes, we even played someone between the goalposts for the whole match, who's only job was to stop shots from going in. how unsporting of us. Perhaps in the future we should just let the opposition pass it about and have free shots on an open goal, after all anything to the contrary is trying to stop creative football, and therefore somehow unsporting.
