Oh how Sam would like to have a £35m striker to select right now. So looking like we wasted £35m on Rutter as Sam threw a hand grenade at Orta yesterday by saying Rutter was for next season. He added that you can have all the skill in the world but the prem requires something else and it will be next season before we see that. So unless Sam is playing mind games and he surprises WHU by giving Rutter a chance to do his stufff?

Then we wasted £35m which is as bad as the defence conceding goals, the midfield being weak or Bamford missing a penalty. We go down because Orta screwed up

It’s the exception not the rule for guys of Rutter’s age to make an immediate impact in the Prem. It was pretty obvious that it came from the ‘investment’ budget earmarked for CDK/gakpo.

I didn’t have a problem with the signing although it looked a high ticket value - my beef was that we clearly needed reinforcements elsewhere in the team. I suspect the issue is the source of funding. Rutter was signed to (hopefully) make a profit in a few years - it’s easier to secure investment for that… than the Prem ready defenders the team actually needed.

Said all this at the time… and that Leeds fans would need patience with him… which was never going to happen with the price tag.

But I was then still stupid enough to lose a bet with Emu over him<laugh><laugh>

I get your point on having 2 buckets of funds and Rutter cash came out of the investment bucket to which 49ers would have to be heavily involved. But a £35m striker who scored a few goals which in turn gets points to keep us up would mean the investment would have earned the owners another £140m for staying up. That would be a real investment

Good post. There was too much expectation on Rutter when he signed which is why I offered the bet to the forum. The fact that nobody took it on should suggest that deep down everyone knew that Rutter wasn't ready.

I admire you for saying "**** it, I'll take the bet anyway!" even though you kinda knew you were probably on a loser. None of the 'believers' took it on.

Emu I reckon most of us were thinking Orta wouldn’t be stupid enough to buy a player for the future when we needed someone for right now.

Looking forward to this afternoon's games so will be watching with Everton at Wolves before Forest take on the Arse in the 5-30 KO. Pretty relaxed about things to be honest but that could change were they both to win, anyway hopefully at least one of them loses and then things are back in our own hands again.

Didn't listen to Big Sam's presser yesterday but did hear a snippet where he was saying West Ham might not be up for it after Thursday night. Thought he was supposed to be a savvy operator but obviously not as the last thing you do is give them a reason to be motivated when they might have been distracted you fecking clown.

Watched the presser. Big Sam said that they might not want to get injured for the final in the league games that really don't mean anything. Basically sowing that seed in their heads. I thought it was clever tbh.

Thought you'd be a bit more savvy than to listen to soundbites picked out with no context. :emoticon-0177-toivo

Relegation day part one today. We could be playing spurs in adead rubber next week. Leicester are not down yet and could grab four points. Could be us and forest going down.

Ouzo today mate.... I want none of the others to win today but it's in our hands if they don't. Will 4 points be enough.. Well not if those above us get the same.

Spurs looking dead. Started well even scary good and went 1-0 up but now doing a Leeds in the second half, no heart, no bottle and cannot defend. 1-2 down, we should beat this lot

A topless barmaid in Kavos once stood on the bar above me in just a thong and poured ouzo in to my mouth when I was 18. I would have let her piss in my mouth at that moment. Happy memories.

...but they've not won away in 9 games or something. You know what we are like ending bad runs for teams or players.

From what I've seen of spurs they are either really good for spells of games or just look disinterested. Hopefully they are on the beach next week. I just worry about Kane, Son and Kulusevski against our amateurish defenders.
