If it's anything like the cigarette 'fiasco' where every packet is the same colour and it takes them 5 attempts to get the correct product, you'll end up in William Hill instead of Ladbrokes .

you appear to be missing the point by several million miles. the rules are there and need to be enforced because it's only a short step to players throwing matches and there are plenty in certain other countries willing to pay for results so their bets come up winners. it's happened before in football, it's happened in cricket, and i'm sure it's happened in numerous other sports.

there was a big scandal about football betting in 1964. older viewers will remember this (i heard about it later). link below.

if you think an 8 month ban is excessive, read this.

    33 players were prosecuted
    many were fined
    most were banned
one was jailed for four years
nine more were jailed for periods of four to fifteen months
all were banned for life on release (the fa later allowed appeals against the life ban seven years in)

    and here's an earlier one:

Complete over-the-top nonsense. There's a tonne of difference between betting on football games and match-fixing.

obviously you don't understand how vulnerable people can be manipulated. there isn't a ton of difference, which explains your laughable comments comparing punishments for this with other punishments. it's been shown in the past that a sport needs to have these rules to protect its integrity. you are just wrong.

Not if the footballer bets on himself committing the first foul, offside, corner etc. the scope for corruption of the game is massive, one day a footballer should get a life ban hopefully soon, then it might stop it.

Be honest, if you somehow became aware of a fix in a game that had no bearing in City, would you report it and deal with the need to explain how you knew, or back it and share the news with selected mates?

A friend of my nephew got a year in prison, for conspiracy to commit crime, about 8 years ago, just for having the discussion of kicking a ball out for corner with some Malaysian 'businessmen' - he got sold out to the authorities by his friend who set up the meeting initially. He got a lifetime ban from the FA. Delroy Facey was involved with setting up these meetings and got the longest sentence. It's mainly done in non-league football as too obvious in the professional leagues where all the games are filmed.

We can talk about ‘integrity’ when the fit-and-proper person test stops dictatorships buying clubs and gambling promotion is completely removed from football. Until then, it’s just pathetic pearl-clutching.

Gregory should've been booked for that foul on the goalie after the goal.
