Wouldn't mind seeing an experienced pro come in as 2nd choice keeper. Someone like a John ruddy who will be happy enough playing cup games, but is a sold enough backup. If Patterson got injured I'd be very nervous about Alex Bass playing
Not sure how that would work. What would he do? Given that Harvey & Speakman manage the scouting and recruitment, the new HC would take training..... Am sure TM wants to be involved on a day to day basis, not kicking his heels at the AoL and shaking hands with people on matchday. He's got more to offer than that
The pretty simple solution to this is publicly say we aren’t sacking TM and will discuss a new contract at Christmas. Speakman and KLD don’t have to compromise their vision. But the timing to remove the manager is silly if they do. I just fear they’re too stubborn (which can be a good thing btw). Let’s face it - we are 3-4 defeats in august / September away from some fans turning on Mowbray anyway (if it happens). There’s only upside to keeping Tony. Either he does well and a new gaffer wasn’t needed. Or he doesn’t and we bring that new one in. not sure why we’d go any other way personally
Be gutted to lose Mowbray but I’ll trust those who are paid fortunes to make those decisions, that’s all we can do as fans really
Aye I've been grateful all season that we haven't had to rely on Bass, I'm not saying he's ****e because I've barely seen him in action but what you want is the experienced pro/young talent mix for keeper. Also need another Stewart type like that Nemeth that we nearly signed but went elsewhere. Amad will need replacing presumably but there's not a lot 'needs' doing beyond that. Lot of talent in the team already.
But the coach can only work with the players that the recruitment team and speakman bring in. Speakman overseas the full club n not just the 1st team so is definitely a bigger part of the club than TM Look i want TM to stay n i personally think itll be a mistake but we can not lose Speakman. I get that speakman isnt everyones cup of tea but that man has transformed our club to where we are today. The whole point in a sporting director/director of football role is there is a little impact on the whole club when a manager leaves , thats why he is so so important to us
There is no room for sentiment if you want to be successful in football and that's were we have gone wrong in the past. Since taking the club on KLD has tried to enure that it is run professionally and if the business dictates that a different coach is required then he will be appointed. TM has done a good job in a very difficult situation but do you see him taking a team to the top half of the premier league? That is the question that will have been asked in the boardroom, the planning is not just for next season, they will be looking years into the future. They may make the right decision, they may make the wrong decision but they will stand or fall by that. I find that quite refreshing but a bit scary. Part of me would like to see TM continue or even offered a post as the Academy Manager / Head Coach but would that be the best decision for the club? I don't know and very, very few supporters will be in possession of all the facts to make that decision. I think KLD has earned the right to run the club as he sees fit, at least for now, and I'm already looking forward to next season and whatever that brings. It's never dull being a Sunderland supporter is it
Firstly, really proud of this team and how far we got this season. Totally unexpected. They've been a joy to watch. Secondly, last night they gave their all, but Luton learned from Saturday and stifled our play. I don't like Luton's style of play but it was effective. So even though we looked like a team full of injuries, running out of steam, some credit to be given to Luton. Thirdly, I'm looking forward to the summer window, and a fantastic pre season. A few more players, and less injuries and we'll be fighting for automatic promotion.
He's had to play the no9 role which he isn't, he's doing a different job to what he was brought in for, problem is some people have issues with Speakman and the only thing they can criticise him on is not bringing in another no9. Although yes this has been a major problem but as I've said before if 2 of our CB had stopped fit we'd be on our way to wembley , so IMHO the lack of striker has not cost us promotion. For people to say Gelhardt is **** is laughable, the lad is a no10 and if he'd played as one behind Stewart which he was brought in for he would have been fantastic, Diallo was the most outstanding player this year but if we'd played him at CB I'm sure he would have been ****. We have totally over achieved this season but yet some people will look at every defeat as an excuse to blame Speakman and the recruitment
Class mate. I've gotten into them more in my 30s. Absolute radio play stuff like "Everything counts" and "Never let me down", not usually played on mainstream. Was Dave getting the crowd into and please say you sang "all I ever wanted" when he held the mic up? lol
Aye all his singalongs. I fully expect them to announce more uk dates later like Manchester Leeds etc. that’s what they usually do
I would be gutted if we replace Mowbray, but my take on his comments is slightly different than most. He is a wily old fox who appears to me to be starting his pitch for the recruitment team to find the players he wants to have a balanced squad for next season. Every business operates to a long term open ended strategic plan, but a Manager/Head Coach is more interested in short term planning purely because his job security is result dependent. I might be wrong (probably am) but time will tell. Keep the faith and cheers for your input
The way Mick Harford was celebrating last night, i guess his roots lie deeply in Luton. I always thought he would favour us more than them considering hes a Makem born and bred
Huddersfield were fined £70K last year 16 May 2022 — Luton boss Nathan Jones labelled the Huddersfield supporters an 'absolute disgrace' following their pitch invasion at the full time whistle https://www.lutontoday.co.uk/sport/...ce-following-full-time-pitch-invasion-3696522
I've seen a video on twitter of Amad being punched/hit in the back by a Luton fan during the game, and stories are going round of him being spat at and hit after the match. Personally I hope Boro do them in the final.
