I've not had any issues with NHS, although I have had private care, but you still end up with the same consultant. I think it can be a tad riskier with private care, because they don't appear to have the same size teams as the NHS - either that or the NHS is over staffed lol.

Tongue in cheek suggesting that btw.

I think the only comparative advantage is having your own room in private care, other than that, can't think of anything else.

I know people will say waiting times, but generally if you are an existing patient, the waiting times don't affect you to the same level, as say a new walk in patient.

It also helps if you know the process and who to contact for when things go a bit tits up, whereas if you are new on the pathway, you don't have a clue and that can seem to make things worse, while you are being pulled from pillar to post.

The wait times issue is a massive factor though I've gone from years to weeks.

Add to that the thorough checks, the NHS missed 2 things that were then picked up on the same scans in the private place.

I've never had any probs with wait times, it's like with doctors people often go on about them, but I think some of it is more not knowing the process or who you should be turning to, to help yourself - not that I'm expecting people to know, I'm just saying it's easier if you've been on that pathway for some considerable time, because you know the ins and outs of it.

    Yeah could be.

I've done both NHS & Private, I have exactly the same consultant for both, so it is all a bit bonkers really - but yeah I hear what you are saying.

Hopefully you have a job where you still get paid a full wage for being off. :)

Waiting times, being seen to within the next few days for scans or checks that are not "urgent".

They also spend a lot longer with you as well if you want rather than being seen to and turfed out (think that's doctor dependant when vis nhs).

But you are right in principle they use the same people so its not a private doctor, just an nhs one (from what i have seen) unless you get the really top specialists

When I did my ACL I was able to pull a few jewish strings and got a top, top private surgeon and a great physio who got me back walking and cycling in a few months though I did it at a good age to do it. The NHS is great but private health is worth the money if you can afford it IMO.

I’m all for freedom of choice and against the privatisation of the NHS. If people want to pay for a better version of what they get for free (ignoring taxes) then go for it. Same for education.
