I would never want to compromise our style of football for the sake of squeezing in a few 6 foot 3 lads. **** that, they are welcome to that style of play if that's what their fans want to watch. No disrespect to them, all the best in the final.
They go up and try that football in the EPL and they'll be humiliated. Their only advantage is the ground and the tiny playing area. That's what stopped us getting our wide players involved enough and we had no height up top to try and throw a few balls into the box to mix it up. It might help them if they get up, but if not, God help them. Bit like the 80s, they survived for years because of the artificial pitch, visitors struggled to adapt to it so they bombed them for the first 20-25 minutes to grab goals, and nine times out of ten it worked for them. Once they ripped it up and had a grass pitch they dropped out of the top flight (should have gone down instead of us in '91, but came down the season afterwards in '92, the first season on grass not AstroTurf) and then dropped like a brick. Saying that it would be funny if they did get promoted but we're told the ground wasn't good enough and they had to play at Watford or Milton Keynes.
Gelhardt hasn't been terrible, not even close. Typical of your tendency to describe our players in the most dramatically negative way though.
M We were missing our 2 first choice CBs tonight, both of which are 6 foot 3 and 6 foot 4, and our main striker whos 6 foot 4, and also our first choice LB, its no wonder we were outmuscled. Take any team in the leagues first choice CBs out the team and their main goalscorer and id like to see how theyd cope. The fact we made the playoffs with such a depleted squad is remarkable.
That's the key part to this entire model. If we sell Clarke for £20m (for example) and we don't reinvest it all, then questions will be asked.
Lihadji will be gone or Bennette? Not seen enough of either to be worried about them going, too raw. Profit on either is nice.
I judge strikers with goals. He has scored 3 in 15 or something without looking. In a free scoring team. He doesn't hit the ball clean. Poor.
I think clarke will stay, hes had a big move before n seen how it could impact his career. I think he will be around for at least another season
I’m going to make a bold prediction. Luton will get beat in the final and we’ll finish above them next season
Would rather we win playing our style. Would you rather we shell it long to a couple of strikers of their size?

Let’s be honest Lads, we’re going to enjoy next season so much more than if we went up. Of course it would have been good to go up but I would expect us to be getting stuffed every game, we’re not ready yet. It was obvious what they (Luton) would do, all on here would say get as many crosses in all the time. That’s it. Our injuries have caught up with us and most of them on tonight’s showing would only be getting a 5 or 6 on players ratings. Maybe a positive will be any Premier managers who watched that will not be too interested in the likes of Clarke and Patterson. We know they’re good but they didn’t look like Premier material tonight. Hope we keep them. Anyway, a good positive season. Well done all at SAFC.
Sadly a fair result. The injuries caught up with us. But what a season. We go again with new players in July. Bigger and better. Onwards and upwards.
Huge call to throw in a kid with no experience and expect him to perform For the record, Gooch played CB on Sat and that worked out very well It's too easy to throw about blame after a defeat. Personally I remain philosophical whilst also disappointed
I don't think it's unreasonable to say Gelhardt has been disappointing. Worked hard but we needed more.
