Just had a meal in the local pub and the television was showing Kidderminster Harriers in their play-off final, the young woman in the next table explained Harriers were her team before moving to the Outer Hebrides and still followed them closely, they won 2-0 by the way.
We had a good chat about football, it's such a common language and complete strangers can while away half an hour in a pub leaving good pals of sorts.
It's what makes following a sport such a pleasant experience at times.

Carlisle edged that first half imo, despite being 1 down. Be interesting to see how this one plays out.

We had a fifteen minute walk from the Metro to the hotel and Mrs Smug was 'emotional and drained' after the match. Thankfully there was the inevitable Tesco trolley which became her Uber. A lad offered to push uphill, for the second half, and turned out to be a Syrian refugee. A great lad and wouldn't take a penny for his trouble ...

... a mad end to a crazy day.

Glad to hear you're OK mate.

Barcelona clinch the title at their rivals Espanyol winning 2-4. Hell on after the game, Espanyol fans on the pitch at FT trying to get down the tunnel.

Barca went a bit too far imo. The Espanyol fans gave them 5 or 10 mins to celebrate but they took the piss.

The Braca players **** themselves when their fans ran on the pitch. <laugh>

Like to think we can emulate Brighton if we develop and get promoted to the premier.

Sums up the petulant nature of football fans - young team, getting better every year with a talented young manager. just fell short this year so yeah, let's all walk out in the huff

The thing Brighton have got really good at is being willing and comfortable and actually encouraging sales of their players.

In the interview after game yesterday De Zerbi said “we will lose Caicedo and Mac Allister this summer but it’s a year too early for Estupinan and some of the others”.

this attitude seems counter productive but it’s the promise that these players will be sold when they’re ready that attracts them there in the first place.

this feels similar with what we are doing and I hope our fan base are ready for it.

Using this approach I feel like the only one “ready” to leave if we don’t get promoted is Jack Clarke. The others all need at least another season with us. If we get promoted then he should stay as well. And it would still also be a good thing for him to stay another year even if we don’t.

Southern A is quite right, ambitious players will only come if they know they can progress.

Progress means going on to a club higher than Sunderland with a better chance of silverware or, at worst, for more money. Hopefully we'll reach a point, like Brighton or Brentford, whereby the amount of clubs bigger than us becomes much smaller. In that way we'll keep players longer and have the chance of Cups or Europe.

    <laugh>

I've just looked at what I've written and laughed ...

... a lad I sat next to at the match said, 'Have I come to the right ground!'

What a change in the club, imagine if we repeat that progress in the following two years.

No disrespect to Brighton or Brentford but our ceiling is much higher. We can certainly match them, if we progress like we are doing. Our fan's are the reason we can overtake them on our way up. Imagine any exciting young prospect being at our place on Saturday, they would definitely want some of that.
